Hey! That is my name! but I spell it Matilde.
LOL I know it isn't for everyone but just to give you a different point of view. . .my parents INSISTED that everyone called me by my full name and everyone does. I am only Tilde online but IRL I am ALWAYS Matilde. I could never be Tilly or Mattie!

Tell me honestly- did you have any issues with your name growing up? I'm embarrassed for possibly insulting a real life Matilda/de (so I am erribly sorry if I did) but would love the insight.

 you should tell your DH that he has some rather mixed up theology in that name! he should commit to mono or polytheism 
that being said, I'm currently looking for a good germanic pre-christian name for Crouton's middle name 
I l hate to say it, but I ike matilda... my favorite spelling it Mathilde...
I like that name even more than your name suggestions

OMG don't you dare feel bad! I was totally teasing you! If you ask my friends - they are so used to my name. . .it is always a suprise to hear that it is unique! LOL the uncommon spelling was a bit annoying. My parents did not speak English well and most teachers would just assume that I was misspelling my name and would send me home to practice the "correct spelling." That was frustrating.
But, I will admit to you that I had one horrible nickname growing up. It was Ma + a certain sex toy that starts with a D. That was in my preteen years and boys can butcher ANY name they feel like and make it inappropriate. But maybe you can tell your husband that and then he will find another name!!
Trust me, any name you pick - after a little while you will get so used to it that you won't even realize that it isn't common. Like I said, my nephew's name is Augustus - he is only a few months old and I already forgot that I thought it was an odd name! It is just HIS name now!
I love my name now. I feel like it is very feminine and old fashioned! It was also my grandmother's name so I appreciate it so much more NOW as an adult!

I don't prefer Matilda, but I do like Phoebe, but maybe b/c one of the sweetest and prettiest girls I ever met was named Phoebe.

and Maggie... you don't have to name her margaret... you could just name her maggie OR Margarite... (that's aunt's bonnie's name ya know...)

I would be honored if you named your child after me, I didn't realize I had such an impact on your life!
BTW: MatildE is the Italian and French spelling of the name  Matildina is the diminutive nickname for it, with some people using Dina as the shortened version of that!
