Am i the only one who believes that this baby should be celebrated also......
not so much as a shower but a celebration of our new babys arrival??? a celebration of life.
ive heard so much about it is totally not the norm for a shower after your first which i understand its not as if we need any equipment seeing as our 1st is only 17 months but this is a new baby and a new life that i feel i want to celebrate with my closest friends and family is this odd ??
we are having a girl this time around so she will need clothes blankets etc as all we have are boy things i also need all new bottles pacis and bedding none of which i would ever expect as gifts that is our responsibility so with this in mind is it wrong of me to want to throw a party for our new addition ?
with some of the comments i have received recently im really feeling quite upset that others would nt want to share in our exceitment.

i totally understand how you feel. i never really understood the big deal. i mean most people have b-day parties every year that people come and bring gifts to. i think you should def have one...esp since you are having a girl this time around. i have heard people call it a sprinkle 2nd time around!!!

I don't think that people generally wouldn't want to celebrate the birth of your child... I think some may think it's unnecessary to send you baby gifts (in a classical shower sense), since you don't have to buy many large/$$$ items...
most cultures DO have celebrations of the birth of a child (regardless of whether it is your first or not)... Christians have the baptism/christening, Jews have a bris or baby naming ceremony, and the Chinese have a celebration too.... Sure, many of these are linked to religious ceremonies, but you will receive baby gifts like clothes and blankets at these events...
the biggest thing is that people usually love to attend these events that celebrate the new baby.... so all new precious babies are celebrated.....

Hey, I'm just crashing!
I don't think it's wrong to throw a little sprinkle. If your new baby was the same sex as your first I think it would be different, and even then, if you have them in different seasons, you need clothes anyway.
My sister has four boys and we only threw her a shower for her first, until now. She's pregnant with a girl, so me and her best friend are giving her a "sprinkle".

Honestly, I think they are a little close in age to have a full on shower, yes, you are having a girl this time, but at the same time, people shouldn't be expected to buy you clothes, blankets, etc.
Now, don't get me wrong, I think the baby should be celebrated, but maybe a sprinkle or a lunch for your closest friends and immediate family where gifts are optional.

so strange...we have baby showers each and everytime someone of my friends and family is having a baby..whether it is their first or their fifth! Don't feel funny about anything...you celebrate your baby! And wouldn't you give a present to anyone who has a baby arriving soon to help them out whether it is their 1st or their 5th?? I know I would without thinking twice...I know I may get knocked for this, but shame on your sister or bestfriends for not throwing you a shower on their own!!! If you feel that no one is going to do that, seriously fm me and I'll organize it for You!!! You are having a baby!!! Its the most amazing thing in the world and you and your baby should be celebrated!!!!!
