Re: Centereach

It has its good and not so good areas...

BUT what i like about it, is that it is def up and coming...Making leaps and bounds actually. A lot of late 20 early 30 couples are buying there, and turning the area over quite rapidly.

Middle Country is about middle of the road IMO. But i see it also going up in the next 5 years

ETA. it is one of the areas we are looking to possibly buy in

Re: Centereach

I grew up in Centereach...and since my parents still live there I can see a definate change for the good.

While I was in High School a Herion problem really starting becoming apparent in the high school

When my sister graduated just 5 yrs later...it was much worse...teachers were retiring because they became afraid of what was happening inside the school

But since then the high school has hired
some younger...get involved teachers...and a real turn around has started to happen.

Re: Centereach

There are a bunch of us living in Centereach. DH and I have lived here for about 18 months.

I was skeptical about the area when we were first looking but I love where I live. Its a nice quiet safe neighborhood (and I live on a semi busy road) my neighbors are all very nice, some are much older (their kids are my age) but alot of houses in my area have recently turned over to young 20 and 30 something couples!

I love that its so close to all shopping, restaurants, major roads etc.

MCSD is an average SD but honestly the way I think about it is that anything can happen in the next 5-10 years. That amount of time can really change a district. I think with alot of younger families moving in, there is going to be a big push for uping the bar though.

Let me know if I can be of any add'l help.
Oh and we are in the town of Brookhaven

My DH and I have lived here for 3 years now. Like others said, I was sceptical at first, but I absolutely love it! My neighborhood is so quiet and safe. Nice families.... a lot of young couples buying and fixing up houses. I'd say we are happy here and would recommend it. Chat Icon

Re: Centereach

I would just like to point something out about school districts...MANY school districts have a "bad" reputation. I suggest going for a tour of the schools that your future children may be going to. I know for fact that certain districts that have "good" reputations pay for the media to keep a lot of information out of the news. JT worked for News 12, and I can tell you that the crap you hear about in some of these districts goes on even in some of the "good" districts. So always go and see for yourself.

Re: Centereach

My best friend lives in Centereach, so alhtough I don't live there I know it a little bit.

There is the best public library in all of Suffolk County there, I think it has even won national awards.

There is a lot of shopping - all kinds of restaurants and other stores, except for maybe a book store. And it's very close to the mall and major roads.

The only thing I personally don't like about it is Jericho Tpke kind of runs right through it, so the traffic can be a daily battle no matter where in Centereach you live. And the stripmalls are kind of an eyesore.

There are many homes in a reasonable price range on decent sized lots, with taxes that are not outrageous.

I don't know anything about the school district other than it is not the best, not the worst.

Re: Centereach

it is nice, very central location. SD is okay. I think in the past few I have seen alot of changes for the better. It is a nice average place to live, diverse in many ways.
