Really sick...
I have been sick since yesterday. I have the worlds most horrible cold and it seems to just be getting worse every hour. Im horribly congested and just feel AWFUL. I am worried about the little one and feel guilty for even taking the couple extra strength tylenols that I did (one yesterday and two today).
Any suggestions?
PS... Im 7+ weeks and noramlly dont take cold medicine even before I was pregnant

Re: Really sick...
Saline nasal spray. A hot shower (or at least be in the bathroom with the hot water running). I took Sudafed a few times, but I used it very sparingly. It might not be a cold. I thought I had one all through pregnancy and it ended up being that my nasal passages were just really swollen. It was horrible!!!

Hey Jen i would try to just sleep and let your body fight off the cold. Try not to take anything if possible

Re: Really sick...
At 7 weeks I wouldn't take anything. Use saline if you have to and drink some decaff tea and just try to fight it off on your own. Feel better

Re: Really sick...
I would sleep as much as possible and drink lots of fluid. Pregnancy suppresses a woman''s immune system otherwise the fetus might be rejected by the body as a foreign body. During my first pregnancy I had the worst cold I have ever has during the beginning of my pregnancy. The good news is that after that I never had one again during the pregnancy.
I hope you feel better soon.

Re: Really sick...
if your body feels crappy, it's not good for you or your baby.
call your doctor--there are many medications that doctors will prescribe or recommend because the benefits of having a healthy mom outweigh any possible risks.
i went to the doctor several times and was put on meds twice during my pregnancy--even early on. one time i was really stupid and it took a week for me to go to him because i figured i couldn't take anything--boy was i wrong! they were upset that i had waited so long and gave me 2 prescriptions. i was cleared up less than 2 days later.
please call your general practitioner--he will know what to do. feel better!

Re: Really sick...
I feel your pain Jen Since last week, I've been coughing a lot of gunk up because of my post nasal drip. I am now left with a dry cough. I went to my doctor and they prescribed me rhinocort because its the safest for pregnant women. I tried the saline spray and keeping up with the fluids. Last night I was kept up because of my cough. If I sleep on my side, I get the tickle, but I don't get the tickle as much as when I sleep on my stomach. I got desperate and went to have the prescription filled. Find out the its not cover under my insurance and its $130 out of pocket. My mom offered to pay for it, but I'm not 100% sure if it will take care of my cough. My RE said that I can take Zyrtec, so that's what I've been taking. I am in desperate need of some sleep. What I wouldn't give for a shot of Nyquil.

Re: Really sick...
Try not to take anything. Do saline sprays and humidifers. When I was 7-8 weeks I ended up getting the stomach flu. (I first thought it was morning sickness, but the dr confirmed it was the stomach flu) I was scared to death about the consequences it had on DS, but he is healthy. And, as you probably know, he was born bigger than life, so he didn't suffer!
