What do you think of this name... [with poll]

Kelly- for a boy? This is going to sound stupid, but since I saw the movie "The Family Stone," where the father's name was Kelly, I always liked it as a boy's name. Dh says he likes it too. We don't know what we are having yet- and have not decided if we are going to find out or have it be a surprise. DH and I have a pretty common Irish last name, so it totally flows. I was wondering what the general pregnant public felt about it.

My dh works with a Kelly who has a very irish last name as well. I think it is a nice name!

to tell you the truth, i see just as many
"guy" kellys as i do "girl" kellys - it's a good irish name and i think you should go for it!

Thanks! I've never heard of a male Kelly or met one. The movie was the first time I heard it. But I really loved that movie and the character played by craig T. Nelson, and thought... "Hmm. Now that's a good strong name!"

My bosses name was Kelly - I thought it was a good, strong male name (helped that he was a handsome man too )!

I knew alot of guys named Kelly (they're hot too! LOL)!

He'll probably get made fun of a lot and when he turns in resumes and stuff, they'll probably think he's a girl, but the teasing will fade by the time he's in college or so. My husband's name is Jaime and he was tortured growing up. He is very conscious of having a "masculine" name if we have a boy.

Personally, I don't like it.

But, if you love it and DH loves it, you should use it regardless of what people think.

Honestly its not my favorite, but then again, most of the names I like for both boys and girls I usually get the looks about, so I say go for it!!!!

I find it very interesting that it seems to be okay to use a "boys" name for a girl but when you want to use a "girls" name for a boy it illicits such strong reactions. I voted yes, if you both like it I think you should keep it on your short list. It's hard enough to come up with something you're both going to agree with let alone trying to please every one else!

Hi Gabi!!!! In all honesty I like the name for a boy, just not MY
I think its tough enough on our babies to get through school

I had a karate teacher (male) named "Tracy" years ago -- all I can say is good thing he was a black belt.

So even though I like the name (and i the bad news bears punk), DH and I would probably pick something non-unisex for a guy. Interestingly, "unisex" names for a girl don't bother me in the least!!!!

I like it Gabi. What matters the most is that you and Mike like it. Dont worry what anyone else says. We got tons of positives and negatives when we picked Anthony. You will never please everyone.

I dont, but that is simply because I will for obvious reasons only identify with it as a girls name!
