AMEX question
Right now I have the green card. I have been receiving emails to upgrade to the Gold. Before I do this, I'm wondering if the upgrade is worth it. Gold card holders think? Worth it or not.
And what are some of the perks you get with it.
TIA.

Re: AMEX question
If I remember correctly-the gold card was $325 a year just to have it! I now have the Amex Blue and love it.
ETA: this was years ago. I am pretty sure it was that high.

What are the perks with this card? Is this the same as the green card as far as having to pay it off each month?

REALLY! I guess they're offering me a discount of $135 for the year. If it's $325 I would never consider it.
Thank you both for your replies.

Re: AMEX question
I have the gold card and frankly I have never used any of its benefits. I could have stayed with the green card. I won't switch back because I know the minute I do I will regret it for something.
I also have the Blue Card that I used for 0% promotional offer.

I didn't want to pay a fee - so I got the Amex/Costco card - it gives you - 3% back on gas, and eating out at restaurants/take out, 2% back on all travel and travel type things (LIRR tickets, car service, car rentals etc), and 1% back on everything else.

Re: AMEX question
I have two Amex cards-- a One card and a Platinum card.
I use the One for every day purchases-- 1% of all purchases is put into a high yield savings account.
I like the Platinum card to accrue membership rewards points-- and there are a lot of travel benefits which I take advantage of-- such as access to airline clubs, domestic companion tickets, and the hotel upgrades.
To upgrade to a gold-- I would look at the side by side comparisions of the benefits and see what makes sense for you.
As a Gold cardmember, I believe you get access to some of the travel benefits that Platinum has. Also, Gold card has a lot of events/benefits that Green does not have, such as event tickets, etc.

Re: AMEX question
I have the gold card- pay a fee but its no where near $325. Thats more along the lines of the platinum. I build up points and exchange them in for travel perks.. Its alright. A friend of mine just tole me about the AMEX/Costco card... I might apply for that.
I also have the Blue for the 0%... I transferred my balances onto that

Free membership (for credit card) Acts as a costco card at the same time (you still pay your costco fees)
earn 3% on dining earn 2% on costco purchases earn 1% on everything else
end of the year, they send you a check which i took to costco and purchases stuff..if you don't spend it all, you get cash back.
I'm also executive member at costco so i get 1% back from costco...
Amex TE is a revoling credit account unlike Green/Gold where you "pay it off in full"
Gold comes with rewards which you can get on green at a fee. Remember, each card you give a family member cost money but the gold is expensive.
