Help with a "thank you" wording

some of my coworkers took me out to lunch and chipped in for a gift card (no individual gifts.) I'm not sure if sending each individual person a thank you card is necessary - do you? I was going to send a group email. Is that inappropriate? I wouldn't mind getting it that way if it was the other way around. I thought about circulating a card but it was people from all different groups in the company.

What do you think? What should I write? I'm so bad at this stuff!

Re: Help with a "thank you" wording

what about bringing in one card with a thank you on it, and a platter of cookies (or some other treat) to say thank you?

That's a great idea but I work for a very large company and the people all work on different floors, buildings, etc. It would be too difficult to ensure everyone saw it/got some!

I just didn't want to write out 30 thank yous for lunch and a gift card. Lazy I know!!!Chat Icon

Re: Help with a "thank you" wording

Personally, i would give each person their own thank you card.

I would write something like, "it was so wonderful to be able to spend time with you and the other girls in celebration of my upcoming birth. Thank you so much for the gift card, I'm sure it will come in handy!"

HTH

ETA: i do think that an email or an "e-card" is fine too

When I was getting married a few different departments that I worked with joined in for a bridal shower at work for me. I dropped off a thank you card and some cookies for each.

But honestly, I do think that an e-mail would be fine. If you can do the cookie/treat thing that's cool too but not necessary. I know that when these things come up...I like to join in more out of excitement for the new mom/dad and definitely not looking for any big gesture. A simple thank you is always appreciated. i work in a small-ish office (about 40 people), all different departments, but only one floor. when they all chipped in last yr to buy me a bridal shower gift i wrote one thank you and posted it on the community bulletin board.

Re: Help with a "thank you" wording

People at work threw me an office shower a couple of weeks ago. I sent out an e-Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the group gift. For those that gave me individual gifts, I gave them handwritten TY notes.

I think sending out a e-TY is completely appropriate.

Re: Help with a "thank you" wording

I think a thank you email is fine. I did that when everyone chipped in for a wedding gift when we got married and when they sent me flowers for the birth of my daughter.

To many people scattered around the building to post one in a common area.

Re: Help with a "thank you" wording

honestly, i disagree with most posters.

i feel that if someone chipped in for a gift, they deserve an individual thank you. i would never send one over email. cookies aren't necessary, but for me, individual thank yous are UNLESS you're talking an entire company of like 100 people. then i would do one card and a thing of cookies.
