Question....

what do you do when you feel your privacy has been invaded?
nothing major, just something that you thought was private, turned out not to be so. and although the person who did the "invading" MAY feel somewhat justified in his/her actions, you still can't get over the fact that your privacy has been invaded. Chat Icon

what to do?

(p.s. this has NOTHING to do with DH and I)

just a friend.

Re: Question....

I've had this happen before...recently, too. Rich told his mother something that I NEVER wanted her to know. Chat Icon

I asked him to tell her that he never should've shared something so private (ESPECIALLY because she has the biggest mouth in this hemisphere....but of course, he wouldn't tell her that.

We actually just ignored the situation altogether - I know ignoring something NEVER makes it go away, but it worked for us. We haven't spoken of it since.

Re: Question....

My mother shared something very private about me with one of her friends, after I specifically asked her not to share with anyone. She really didn't see the big deal but I won't share with her again. It destroyed some trust and I don't know how she can make me not feel this way.

Re: Question....

I think I'd approach your friend and express your feelings about the situation and then forget about the situation all together. And next time if I were you, I'd be very careful what I disclose to this person.

Re: Question....

I don't there's much you can do except tell the person that you feel your trust was broken to a point. From that point on, then it will just take time to rebuild the trust.

Re: Question....

well, I happen to know that this person is a very forgiving person, and he/she would want to be forgiven just the same.

it's the trust thing going forward that I think will be the biggest hurdle.

Re: Question....

I guess the way I handle it is just by making sure that the offending party does not have access to anymore private info.

that would be a great idea, but sometimes that just can't be avoided.

Re: Question....

i think i'd just be more cautious in the future.
Its hard, b/c if it wasn't something major, and it wasn't deliberate of the person (meaning, their intentions weren't bad, but they didnt think before they spoke)- sometimes people slip up Chat Icon But, i'd try to be more cautious in the future about how much i told them... or make it a point to say that you're about to share Private information (stressing the point that they need to think twice before they say anything about it) Chat Icon

Re: Question....

hmmmmmmmmmm..........i don't know. Really depends on what the person did to invade your privacy.

IMO if you can help it to have her not ever do it again...i would take steps to do so...

If it is something out of your control...KNOW that this can be done and change your actions!

Does that make sense?
