BPA scares.. how do you feel, really?
Seriously...
I personally feel a little suspicious of these reports and findings. Its kind of like the old "Sweet n Low causes cancer" everything causes cancer and it only was proven when they overdosed some rats on sweet n low.
I feel this is the same. Decades, nothings ever been connected to this .. now its a huge deal? Why? Hrm..BP

I'm not going crazy over it. I mean when you think about it, when we were born our parents didn't know half of what we do and we all survived and turned out okay. But that being said, it's also hard to ignore so I will make an effort to do right by my baby so I did register for Born Free Bottles which are BPA free and the Playtex Drop Ins too.

That is very true, however our parents (at least mine) didn't eat cold cuts for lunch, bought meat fresh at the butcher, bought fish fresh at the fish market, didn't use microwave ovens, and most certainly didn't heat things in plastic containers. Milk came in glass bottles or paper containers (again, no plastic), and was delivered. Cattle and chickens etc were raised without growth hormones. I could go on and on, but you get the point.
The BPA "scare" is not new, what is new is that retailers are now taking it seriously enough that they are voluntarily pulling items from the shelves and Canada is banning some products containing BPA. Something tells me there is something to all the hype.

Re: BPA scares.. how do you feel, really?
I think we all do what is within our control to protect our children - its only natural.
HOWEVER, what many fail to realize is how many other products that we adults use each and every day ALSO have BPA and other chemicals. After selling Tupperware for 2 years, I learned a couple of things about plastics and household items that I never knew before.
Some soft plastics may contain some carcinogens that get activated when heated. That is why we are always told NOT to reheat things in the Chinese food containers but we do. We should NOT heat in styrofoam, but we do. We should NOT reuse water bottles (whether Poland Spring, Evian, Aquafina) that we buy in the store but we do all the time. Reusing them releases chemicals as well - it erodes the insides of the bottles
I also learned something else that I dont know how many people know. Did ya know that a roach live one month off the glue from a stamp? Similar glue is used to keep cardboard and corrugated boxes closed in storage. Bugs crawl in, lay their eggs and they stay there, unseen until they are on the shelves in our supermarkets and in our homes. Yup - the same boxes that we keep childrens's cereals, macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes in. Also the same glue that holds the bags of flour and sugar together. Im willing to bet that most homes don't store their boxed goods in air-tight liquid tight containers. It simply is not something we think about.
Though we also are in a huge movement to go "green" we still live in a highly congested area where the air quality is not the best, cancer rates and heart disease are through the roof and many of our city's children suffer from chronic allergies and asthma.
So yes, does it make sense to get BPA free bottles if you can? Sure - I myself registered for drop-ins (actually for two reasons), but lets be realistic, take a look at the world around us and commit to making changes in other areas to protect our children AFTER they are out of diapers. Every little bit counts.
Rant over.

Re: BPA scares.. how do you feel, really?
I already have drop in's to use and I will still use the same Dr Brown's bottles Hayley used (buying new inserts and nipples for new baby).
I am not going crazy over this. Like someone said, our Mom's drank, smoked, drank lots of coffee (at least mine did ), took medicines when they were sick, probably ate cheese she wasn't supposed to eat...etc and we are fine.
I am sure I am going to get flammed for my response but it is my opinion.

I am not really sure what to think. I will try to buy BPA free items but I am just not sure all of this BPA talk is legit
