Not sure what to do....
Well I just got the call - I will start my 12 day RX of provera tonight Another wasted cycle. The RN told me that Dr. Brenner wants me on 150mg of clomid next cycle, but honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I was going to question him about injectibles instead. I really don't think clomid is the drug for me. Do you think if I suggest the injectibles, he's going to shoot me down? I have an appointment with him on Monday to discuss my options.

Re: Not sure what to do....
Can't hurt to talk to him about it. If he keeps you on clomid, I guess I'd ask why? It's better to talk it out with your RE. I had the same gut instinct last month about my IVF cycle and I knew we should have done ICSI and I didn't say anything. And we didn't do it. It may have made a difference (and again it may not have). But, I didn't listen to my gut and now I'm kicking myself.

Dr. Brenner should be very open to you wanting to do injectibles. After 2 failed Clomid cycles, he actually suggested that I do injectibles. It doesn't hurt to ask him.

Re: Not sure what to do....
Remember, you are the patient and you dictate exactly what direction you want to go in. I had this conversation with my RE at the start when she recommended IUI with clomid and I balked. Her response was, I only suggest what I think will get you pregnant the quickest, but I'm only here to help, you are the one to guide me on how fast or slow you want to go.
I would definitely talk to your RE about it - you and I are similar with our reactions to Clomid. My RE said for me, she wants to try one more higher dose of Clomid, and if that doesn't work, no more fiddling around and straight into Injectables so I don't see why it would be a problem for you

Beth - What dose of clomid are they bumping you up to? And what was your reaction on the lower dose?

Beth - What dose of clomid are they bumping you up to? And what was your reaction on the lower dose?
I've only been on one dose so far, 50mg. My reaction was bizarre. Essentially I had several follies develop, about 6 or 7, but my bloodwork was totally whacky. The LH didn't surge enough, my estradiol didn't get as high as it usually does, and my lining wasn't thick enough. My RE initially thought I just wasn't going to ovulate, but last week's bloodwork showed that I did, in fact, ovulate, but very, very late, around CD25 or so.
It's very strange for me because I've been tracking my cycles for 12 months now, and I ovulate no problem on my own, always, without fail, on CD 14, 15 or 16. My RE said that what happened to me with the Clomid often happens with someone who isn't on a large enough dose, but only with people who don't ovulate on their own. She said she's never seen this happen to someone who has no problems ovulating on their own, and thinks I had some kind of Polycstic Ovary Syndrome reaction to the Clomid.
So, I'm taking this month off - doing unmedicated IUI's and next month she's going to up the dose of Clomid to see if it was a fluke, or if I really don't react well to Clomid. If that doesn't work we are moving straight into very low doses of injectables.

Wow, I can't believe what a strange reaction you had to the clomid! I think taking this month off is a great idea. I think we know our bodies better than anyone! I am so nervous to take the 150mg of clomid. I had side effects on 100mg - I can only imagine 150mg. Plus, I haven't progressed AT ALL on the clomid, and personally don't think my body will do any better with an extra 50mg.
Good luck to you!

Re: Not sure what to do....
Seriously if you don't want to do another round of Clomid, you don't have to. Talk to your RE about it and come up with a solution that you both feel good with
Just remember, you WILL find something that works, it may take time, but you will, and then all you'll have to worry about is the timing
