Insert headbanging icon here.....
I'm venting, and don't care if I get flamed...
I am not reading or posting on TTC anymore! It drives me crazy the way OBs are just prescribing clomid like it's nothing and when someone asks about Clomid, us girls who unfortunately have been there done that, and KNOW what we're talking about give our advice and opinions not to be taken seriously like we actually do know what we're talking about. It's frustrating (at least to me). Why the resistance about being watched on Clomid??? I don't get it. I would just hate to see anyone waste precious months trying to get pregnant and not being watched closely.
Am I the only one that feels this way?
I'm sticking to this board and my girls that appreciate opinions and advice.
Vent over...flame away, I really don't care! Had to get that off my chest.

ITA w/ you. I saw that post and responded... and am possibly going to respond again. Any chemical going into your body needs to be monitored ESPECIALLY fertility meds that are supposed to make enough of an impact on your body in a short amount of time to get the results that are needed..... though a lot of people (and here's where I may get flamed w/ you!) haven't been trying long and really don't know their cycles well enough - but just want to be pg- so they go to any old dr. to get the quick fix.... which I don't think is right either... I agree w/ you!

Re: Insert headbanging icon here.....
OK- so I just responded twice. I just don't like to see people giving out false information like they're so certain of what they're talking about. It's not fair to others--- and it frustrates me to see how fertility meds like clomid are given out like they're candy.

Re: Insert headbanging icon here.....
I myself am one of the people who wasted valuable time with an over confident under educated OBGYN who put me on Clomid, improperly monitered for 7 months of my reproductive life- So I am very on board with what you are saying...I can never stress enough to people what a valuable life lesson I learned from being too comfortable and not following my gut when I didnt think something was right....You wouldnt want to stay with a dematoligist just because they deal with skin, if you had skin cancer (strange anaolgy I know) but what I'm trying to say is that certain things should be left to 'specialists" because that is what they are trained for and I think Clomid is one of those things...To each his own I guess - so vent away !!!
ETA- In no way am I comparing IF w/ cancer by any means - just wanted to clarify that

Re: Insert headbanging icon here.....
Ok I had to go back and catch up!!
It is so frustrating! We are entitled to our opinions?? This is not an opinions its freaking experience! It is so widely known that ob/gynos prescribe clomid WAYYY too freely! Probably pressure from patients doesn't help.
I just don't understand why people would actually argue with what we know. Not only have we gone through it, but I know we have ALL done extensive research.
Anyone that puts 100% blind faith into their doctor is a fool. I have learned that the hard way.
ETA: I wanted to say that not everyone feels our opinions are not valid. I know there are many women who have sought out the help of an RE because of advice given by IFers. Unfortunately we are the BTDT of the TTC group.
And to answer your question about the resistance to being monitored - I think people are scared. I know when my gyno told me I needed clomid and I had to go to an RE I was both devastated and scared. I think the whole going in for sonos and blood is really admitting something is wrong, while popping pills for a few days doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

Re: Insert headbanging icon here.....
ITA! It upsets me that OB's give out Clomid like candy. It is a powerful drug with many side effects. I think some ladies are afriad to go to RE's and I totally understand that. So, they put their trust in their OB/GYN's who may or may not know what they are doing. Or, they may know someone who got PG on Clomid and think it's a magic pill. Don't get me wrong, for many women Clomid works miracles but for others it can be dangerous and scary. To each his own I guess.

Re: Insert headbanging icon here.....
I completely agree with you and I agree with you from experience. I also responded in that thread and although I said it there I will say it again, I LOVE my OB/GYN but she is NOT a fertility specialist and was not the one to help me with my fertility issues. The BEST thing she ever did for me was to refer me out to an RE. I don't think I would be pregnant right now if I had not seen my RE. That thread bothered me too because OB/GYN's are just so quick to prescribe Clomid as if it's no big deal. Meanwhile, I was SHOCKED to learn from RE that there is a lifetime max # of cycles and that it can thin your uterus, etc., etc. My GYN NEVER told me that!!! She just put me on it and said, "we"ll see what happens". It's just a shame and I see my best friend right now going through this and she trusts her GYN like her word is bible and it scares me for her because I think she is about to be put on Clomid for NO reason whatsoever!! Women need to realize that you have to take control of your medical care, particularly with regards to fertility issues, and ask LOTS of questions and question EVERYTHING!! I learned the hard way and lost precious time, I would hate to see that happen to someone else which is why I chimed in too on that thread.

Re: Insert headbanging icon here.....
I can't even respond to that topic. I haven't had any experience with clomid but it seems so ridiculous to me that one would start taking meds like that before having ANY real testing done. ???? I don't like to take an antibiotic if it isn't necessary so I don't know why ANYONE would just want to pop clomid it's candy without know it's purpose or more importantly it's outcome.
I think everyone made great points in their responses and if other people want to stick their heads in the sand, it's their loss. Information is power and that's all you were offering.

Re: Insert headbanging icon here.....
OK maybe this is just me but I would want to be monitored by an RE if I was on any kind of fertility meds. And also if you need fertility meds IMO I think you should be seeing an RE...unless you have an OB that specializes in IF you can be totally wasting your time and resources.

Re: Insert headbanging icon here.....
I think it's just sad to me that some OBGYNs take fertility so lightly by handing out clomid like it's candy. And to not monitor these meds is ridiculous to me.

My thoughts exactly!!! I just can't anymore over there...
I want to add that my DH had a SA done last March and all was normal. When we finally moved to the RE in October, we found his morphology went from normal to 0% in a matter of 7 months. The repeat SA came in at 1%.

This is so true. I read on other boards how people are self medicating with clomid.
I was acutally on this one board where everyone was buying clomid off the internet because they wanted to have twins. I was in shock!!

Don't stress. You can't help those that don't want to help themselves. Let's just hope that random and newer posters don't follow her advice/example and not look to someone who has a little more education/experience in this matter.
