Maximum number of clomid cycles?
I just finished my 6th round of clomid. On my last cycle I concieved but was not a sucessful pregnany.
My question is, if I do not concieve this cycle, should I be asking about switching to injectibles?

I was switched to injectibles after one unsuccessful round of Clomid.

You can ask about switching to injectibles but since the last round of Clomid did result in a pregnancy the doctor may want you to stick with it.

I had done research on this and found that 6 was the maximum rounds you should do with clomid because it has been known to thin out the lining of the uterus.
I would switch to injectibles and they are easy. Even though it sounds horrible.

Yes. My dr told me no more than 6 rounds of clomid- it's not good for your body. He moved me to injectables after 3 rounds. I did my first round on 50, my 2nd round on 100 and my 3rd and final round on 150...

I also think it depends ont he person... If you are showing no signs of the side effects (like thining of lining etc) than they can keep you on for longer. I would just ask your dr what he thniks.

My RE recommended only 3 rounds of Clomid before moving to injections. I did 2 rounds of Clomid and couldn't stand the side effects so I moved to injectables. I think 6 rounds of Clomid is more than enough. If it hasn't worked by now, it probably will not. HTH!

Thats the thing - it has worked - last cycle I had 5 follies and got pregnant. It ended in miscarriage, so they are giving me the same protocol this cycle - 1500mg met +150mg clomid + IUI since it was successful last time.
I am just confused about the max # of cycles thing. I know that you should move on if clomid isn't working, but if it is then how long should you stay on it?
I guess I'm jumping ahead of myself. Hopefully I won't have to worry about it!

Good point. I'm hoping this one works again. The fact that you responded well to it last time may make them try you on it for another round if need be... though you could suggest the injectables to them as an option and see their take. I'm hoping you won't need to worry about that though!

I truly hope this month is it for you won't have to think about anther cycle but in case it's not, I still think 6 months is enough of Clomid before moving to injections, even if you had a good response to the medication. The injections are really not that bad, have a higher success rate and fewer side effects. JMO.

Here is my history w/ Clomid- I have done a total of 12 Clomid cycles- 7 back in 05' (4 w/ BD and 3 IUI) which resulted in my DS and 5 this year before we moved to IVF (though the RE would have done one more) I have never had any lining issues and my RE strongly recommended against injectables because be was afraid I would over-respond...Since you did have a pg. on Clomid they may want to give it one more try....Good Luck (7 was the charm for me  )
