Gas prices and your job
Has anyone actually asked for a raise in salary because of the gas prices? I passed a gas station in Commack...$3.74 for regular. I really don't know how we are going to survive if gas goes any higher (and it will). I have to do a lot of driving for my job.

Can you asked to get reimbursed for mileage?
It might be worth asking.

No harm in asking, but I know they won't. They would have to do that for every employee they have since we all work outside the office and that was never a benefit they offered.
I was wondering if anyone had to ask for a raise yet? I don't know how they expect anyone to get through this on the same salary.

Re: Gas prices and your job
But would you be willing to take a pay decrease (assuming you DID get a raise for gas prices) when gas prices went back down?

Gas prices going down
Are you making a "funny"??
I honestly doubt they will give me a raise. I may have to look for something local.

Re: Gas prices and your job
I've heard of small businesses giving employees credit cards that can only be used for gas & the cards are good air miles, cash back or points cards that the owners benefit from, plus gas is an expense for them if its really for business.
I negotiated for more money with my boss a couple of years ago when gas spiked(only to 3.30) and my health insurance went up 22%.

Re: Gas prices and your job
My boss started giving those of us who live more than 20 miles away a "travel stipend" at the end of the month about two years ago. It's a little over $100 and is meant to help with the cost of travelling (whatever method you use). I work for a very small company - less than 30 employees.

Re: Gas prices and your job
I don't think it hurts, DH's boss mentioned that he is putting in an extra 3% over his usual raise for higher COLA

Re: Gas prices and your job
Some in DH's company have asked for it & their corporate response was "you make enough money, you can afford to pay for your travel expenses" DH commutes daily to NYC & NJ using both his car & mass transit...
