I've ridden the Yamanote line in Tokyo during rush hour, it was crowded but no one touches you or makes eye contact. Hey, if you are Gaijin, they won't come within 20 feet of you. So it isn't that bad really.

I didn't see that when I was in Japan last year. Maybe this is an old video based on the fashion...
I was there for 3 weeks in '02.
it also depends on what train lines you take. the Shinkansen (sp) was NOTHING like this.
the Tokyo commuter line is where I experienced it.
Yeah we were on the subways often b/c we kept getting lost b/c we couldn't understand how the streets worked.
Both DH and I were disappointed that we didn't experience this. I don't know why we didn't see this. Oh well we'll have to go back another time and experience this.

It seems like their is a job for everything over there. I remember when we went to airport we took a bus and there were like 5 people to help us on the bus and get our luggage on and we were the only two people on the bus.
