Black Tie Wedding
Does that mean long dress or can you pull off a dressy cocktail length?

Re: Black Tie Wedding
DUh I didn't even look at that.

Re: Black Tie Wedding
I would do the long gown.
Otherwise a VERY dressy cocktail dress.

Re: Black Tie Wedding
I know I'm going to have to bite the bullet so to speak.
I don't really even want to go at this point. It's somebody my husband works with - we will hardly even know anybody - and I never ever even met the people getting married. By the time my husband rents a tux, I get a dress, and the gift -
I wouldn't mind if it were friends or family - but for a co-worker of my husband's that he is not even friendly with outside of work.....

I don't think you need to wear a long dress at all-- but your dress needs to be appropriately dressy. Most weddings I have been to have been black tie, and it's always a mixed bag with dress length.

Which brings us to the next question: do you really even need to go to this wedding? It doesn't seem like it is anyone either of you care about.
And if you do go, in this case I would just wear a nice cocktail dress and dress it up with jewelry and fancy shoes.

I don't think we really need to go - but my husband wants to go - and I don't. We would still send a gift, but I rather take the money that we would spend on a tux, dress, shoes etc. and go away for a night with my husband. If I'm going to have to arrange for babysitting for my kids for the night I'd rather be alone with my husband (because that doesn't happen too often) than go to a wedding with a bunch of strangers.
