Have you ever put something together with DH/SO and wanted to kill him/her?

So we just finished putting together our new kitchen island and there were certain points where I wanted to lunge over the thing and strangle him. I know he felt the same way about me. Why is that? Over such stupid shiit too, like "noooooo, this screw goes in this hole NOT in that hole..." Should this be on the relationship board? Chat Icon

we don't argue with each other.... but frequently, DH will begin arguing with the furniture Chat Icon

he sometimes gets so irritated he has to walk away and leave the remaining assembly to me....

I have to admit, I've had moments like that with those darn cabinet door hinges on ikea cabinets... you know the ones... you screw one part into your door, the other part into the frame, and theoretically, they should magically snap together, thereby mounting the door to the frame.... well, that snap action always takes us about 25 min per hinge Chat Icon sometimes much longer Chat Icon

I am the technical/mechanical person, so I do the projects, and DW tells me how to place it when I'm done... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Absolutely. That's why we don't work together on house projects anymore. I'm big on picking up the phone and calling someone else to finish it! Chat Icon

A couple of years ago, we put together a desk and a bookcase in one day. (It was a Sunday.) When I went to work the next day and people asked me what I did over the weekend, the first words that came out of my mouth were: "Not get divorced! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon " They were like... Chat Icon The minute I explained? They were much more... Chat Icon Everybody understood how much of an accomplishment that was.

There's always the inevitable discussion of the extent to which the instructions are followed, why there are extra screws, etc.

It is precisely for this reason that DH is in charge of putting things together...ALONE!

Re: Have you ever put something together with DH/SO and wanted to kill him/her?

DH is terrible at putting stuff together. I have been doing it since my first apartment and have no patience for him. I give him little projects to work on. I hope he eventually gets good enough so he can take over these duties.

We don't put things together either. I put things together on my own or he does the same. It is easier and safer that way.

Samething at my house. Never let your DH look at an IKEA manual, he will suddenly be able to speak Swedish. Chat Icon

I used to, but since he is actually MORE than capable of doing it all himself and to perfection, I now just stand back and offer him a drink Chat Icon

I'll let him put things together, but when I see him having trouble, i'll give my opinion. He usually won't take it. Until he can't get it done, which I will say, "I won't say I told you so." Chat Icon
