Used Car

We are looking to buy a used car. My husband thinks we should go with a 2003-2004 Cadillac with 40-50k miles since it is a "good" car but American so not as expensive to fix as say, an Audi. I want a small SUV think CRV, VUE, etc. We are looking to spend 12-14k. Those of you that know about cars..what do you think? If we do get a sedan has to be 4 doors
