You can start with your OB/GYN but because of your age you may want to consult an RE. Talk to your OB/GYN first and see what they think, let them know of your concerns, and decide with them what the best course of action will be. An RE will be more aggressive, so to speak, with getting you pregnant than your OB/GYN. Chances are if you have regular cycles the OB/GYN will tell you to use OPK's and chart your temp. but if you want to move things along more quickly an RE might be your best bet. I didn't have regular cycles, my OB/GYN didn't really know what to do with me and I was referred to an RE. After 3 months with an RE I was pregnant. So it may happen more quickly for you depending on your care. It's up to you but I highly recommend seeing an RE if you're finding that you are having trouble conceiving. Good luck!!

I would too. Who knows how many viable eggs you have and/or if you are actually ovulating every month. When you go to a RE, it is their sole job to get you preggo. Nowadays it is more and more common for a woman in her 40s to get preggo... due to better overall health, better healthcare, etc. But, the fact is, we each get a certain amount of eggs in our lives, and who knows how many each of us has! I would skip the OB and go straight to the RE!! Best of luck!!

Just another thought - if you're not excited about the prospect of seeing an RE right away and you know you O, in the meantime, you may want to send your DH for a semen analysis...

I really think we just need to do it more!
But I have the appts, I will call insurance today to make sure it's covered. They do that also.
I didn't tell DH yet.
My blood test from the doc came back negative. I knew that, but I also knew with the timing it was a long shot.

At 41, if you truly want a baby, I wouldn't be wasting anymore time. Yes, 41 isn't considered "old" by any means when it comes to quality of life. BUT- it IS considered old (I hate that word) when trying TTC, especially #1 (since you don't have a previous pg, you don't have any prior knowledge whether you are able to or not). That's a sad fact. OF COURSE women do it naturally all the time- but I wouldn't waste any time trying to find out.
You mentioned you know you O- but you don't chart and you haven't had any blood work done. Sadly, MANY women get regular periods, but don't actually O.
I agree with the PP. If your insurance will allow you to- you should go right to a RE who will know EXACTLY what course of action to take with an older patient.
thanks. That's the devil and angel on my shoulders. I do O, I have charted and I'm very consistent. I have been pregnant before. I have an appt with my gyno on Wed but now I have AF and don't know if I should just try to go next week for the exam as well. My regular doc took bloods Saturday for many things so I can wait for that to come back.
I don't want to dilly..I want to make it happen this year. I have not been trying seriously for long at all. I'm just thinking I could head any problems off at the pass before I turn 42!
I O and get my period like clockwork and have been trying to have a baby for almost 3 yrs. I am in an IVF cycle right now. Do not wait if you really want to have a baby

sorry to hear that. Is it you or DH or both that's the problem. I'm also debating whether I'm going to bring DH to the RE with me for the first visit.
