I am so upset right now
My mom told me that her Mom(my nanny was feeling depressed lately ....she has no money and NO FOOD in the house so my aunt was gonna go and bring her some food.well she brought her only 1 thing. she has barely any money coming in and she lives in like senior housing( she pays only $111/mth) but she still cant even afford that. my mom and aunt pay her rent every month and my mom is always always always buying her food clothes and paying her bills
my Nanny has 6 kids but they all claim they cant really help her
this REALL PISSES me off
she Literally has nothing to eat and they cant go buy some groceries
well tomorrow I am going to Pathmark and getting $100 worth of food for her
the only thing is I think she might get mad at me because she is a very proud woman and I dont want to upset her
I am not really sure what to say when I get there
any suggestions??

i just wanted to say that my heart breaks that your grandma doesn't have enough income to take care of herself 
even if she is proud. she'll love you for thinking of her.

What a nice thing for you to do and how horrible for her own children to ignore her!!

Just show up with bags of groceries and say "I am cooking you dinner tonight". Cook her dinner and stock her fridge and cupboards on the sly.

This is what i usually do. And mention how "it was just too good of a sale to pass up!". And let that be the end of it.

Start sending over some carepackages of prepared foods...Tell her that with all the kids you've started cooking things to freeze and you had some extra...freeze in individual single serve sizes and pop over once a week. She'll have dinner every night....
In the summer time say that the neighbors garden was over flowing and you needed to get rid of the veggies...
Have the kids make her some banana bread...or cookies..
take her to costco with her and ask her if she'd take half of "whatever" b/c it's such a good deal but you couldnt possibly use all of it..

That is so nice of you...I would do the same. Your mother should get on the phone and tell her sisters and brothers they $uck. I can't believe they would neglect their own mother like that. Horrible. Is there anyway she would or could live with your mom so she is in better conditions?

All of her family should be chipping in Right now, my Grandmother is going through the same thing...it's a choice between keeping her house of 40+ years or sometimes eating. We always make sure she's got enough (my brothers, my Mom and myself).
Just drop her off some groceries and make up something (It's Grandparents Day, etc. and you wanted to give her a gift). Proud or not, if she's in bad times, she'll accept the food.

First of all she is definately entitled to food stamps. Then I would look into Meals on Wheels. They deliver the meals to elderly people who can't afford or get food. Please look into these. My husbands grandmother gets both above. Also for anyone who know elderly people on very fixed income. Some oil companies give them voucher for one free tank and coupons for fill ups.

I would set her up with a weekly or bi-weekly delivery with PeaPod. We get my grandma, (also fixed income) gift cards to CVS for her meds (almost $2000 a month out of pocket) GC for the food stores. My uncles do the same things with my mom (sole care giver of Gram) she cooks all her meals, dr appts etc and they do nothing. You are doing a great thing, she will be very happy even if she comes across proud.

I agree...tell her they were "giving it away" or something....
That's wonderful of you and your Mom and aunt. She's very lucky to have you. Her children should be ashamed of themselves.

ITA. pride aside, she needs to eat and stay healthy. bring her some groceries and present it as a "let's make dinner and spend some time together" offering.

Sorry to hear your grandma is in such a difficult postion. I think it's wonderful you and your mom are helping out !

my grandfather died when he was 55 and my Nanny was 53 he had no life insurance and he was an (off the books) mason.....and he left behind 6 kids all were grown accept their late in life son who was only 10yrs old
My Nanny has always worked her entire life bakeries ,factories,warehouses etc but they paid crappy money and now she has nothing
I am the oldest grandchild and my mom is her oldest child and my daughter is the oldest great-grandchild
I feel we should do as much as we can.....seriously if it wasnt for her NONE of us would be here

I'd tell her you won it. Supermarkets always have drawings you can enter for $$$ to the store.

Is she able to go to the store herself? If so, I'd start sending gift cards. If not, just go shopping for her and tell her you bought too much. OR, cook her a week or so's worth of dinners and drop them off to her, this way she can freeze them and you don't have to go there every few days.
