Q about e-filing...
Our accountant did our tax return this year and sent us the paperwork in the mail to sign. I was going to mail it in today, but I really want to do it online.
Can I still do it online even though he prepared them on paper? Do I have to ask my accountant? I want to do the direct deposit also.

yes you should just send the paperwork back to your accountant and he'll do it for you. I would call your accountant and ask him about it. If you want direct deposit, you'll need to send him a copy of a voided check so that he has the account number and routing number.

Re: Q about e-filing...
My CPA e-files my taxes, but there is still a document or two I need to sign that he sends to the IRS as a follow-up.

Re: Q about e-filing...
No need to send him back the forms he sent you. Contact him and let him know you want to efile. He may or may not be set up to do it. If he's not, you probably won't be able to efile on your own w/out paying some fee.
As for DirDep, there are two lines on p.2 of the 1040 where you enter the a/c# and routing# information.
The difference in getting your refund between paper filing and e-filing is maybe 1-2 weeks.

I just looked and he put XXXXX's in where that info would go.

if he put xxxx's that means he isn't having it Direct Deposited.
if you are calling him back and asking him to e-file make sure you give him that info.
right now the way he is filing you--paper filing with check mailed--it would take about 8-10 weeks before you see your money!

The software defaults to X's if you don't enter in any info. If you have to paper file you can just white that out and put in your info.
I paper filed and used DirDep...had both refunds in my account w/in 4 weeks.
