After the baby is born
when do you plan on leaving the house? I have some family parties in very early April (I'm due end of march) and so many people are saying oh we cant wait to see the baby..I dont know I think it may be a little early to be around alot of people and children! TIA

Re: After the baby is born
I took the baby out right away. If I had any parties to go to and I felt up to it, i took the baby with me. He/she usually slept. If anyone wanted to hold them, they had to wash their hands and the parents were usually really good about telling the kids not to touch the baby, so I never had to.

Re: After the baby is born
I believe I was told to wait 4-6 weeks before bringing the baby around large groups and/or other children.
We have some events/parties in April that we had to turn down because its just too soon. Some people were upset and others understood completely...I just do not want to risk anything!

Right away - I plan on walking a ton.
My "new" niece is being christened a month after my DD (due date) so that will be the first big crowd event. I'll just keep the bambino close to me.

Re: After the baby is born
I had some visitors, but no small children. DS is now 2 months and I will start to take him out more. A big reason why we were told not to bring him places was because he was born at the height of flu season, there is a lot going around.
Tiny babies have such fragile immune systems, I just erred on the side of caution and kept him home in the beginning. It just wasn't worth it to me- if I brought him around I was afraid people would touch him, etc.

Yes, probably very soon after we get home. I can't stay cooped up in the house and neither can my toddler. I was out and about with dd within a week of having her.

Re: After the baby is born
I plan on taking the baby for walks almost immediately. My nephew's Christening will occur when the baby is about a month old. I think my ILs will babysit while we are at the church and he will come to the party.

Re: After the baby is born
Right away for me. I plan on walking TONS and i can't sit in the house too long or i go crazy.
If anything, i've found that most people with a brand new baby don't ask to hold them. But if they do, they'll have to wash their hands and i might not let kids hold him or her.

Re: After the baby is born
I plan on taking the baby for walks/to the store/etc. right away and i have no problem with visitors to the house, but I do not want the baby around small children or large groups until after 4-6 weeks.
My cousin's wedding is 4 weeks after my EDD but I don't think I'm going for fear of too many people being all over the baby.

Ditto!
And for emergency type situations I plan on keeping an anti bacterial in the diaper bag.
Considering I'm due in early July I want to take advantage of the warm weather and not be cooped up in the house.

Re: After the baby is born
the baby will be around family right away, whether it be at my apt, my IL's or my parent's house. close friends can come to us to see the baby too. if the weather is good i don't mind walking around outside, but i may wait until the baby has had their shots before going into a public place like a mall or restaurant. i say that now, before i go stir crazy at home.

Re: After the baby is born
I might go out for a short walk as soon as I feel ready- but the baby's not going anywhere for 4-6 weeks or until the first round of shots are done. DH is adamant about it...he's a pediatrician
