If he apologized, sincerely, I'd get over it too, otherwise, I'd be very hurt and resentful Chat Icon

You've had a tremendously hard year - you deserve a little pampering and celebration. I'd expect him to make it up to you in one way or another.

I agree with this. Word for word!

I am so sorry!

I'm usually pretty laidback about things but something like this would turn me a real bitter witch. Chat Icon

don't want to sound mean, but there may be more to this than meets the eye

It just doesn't sound right. I mean, everyone's busy at work, so I can understand the lack of the cake or a big presentation.

But how hard is it to wish someone a happy birthday and get a card?

Not to be a psychologist, but you've had a lot of family stuff this year and it's taken up alot of your time.

I'm not defending his actions, but maybe he feels left out/resentful and this is his way of lashing out.

I dunno - it just doesn't sound right

yeah, I know what you're saying, but I did take the time to make sure his day was special, two weeks ago. I blew off many things especially recently to be with him instead of my family...even doctor appts.anything that didn't involve him.

He may be feeling a bit neglected at times, but we do a check in with each other.

He has blown off other b-days as well..not just this time. It's not often, but it still hurts.

He is not big on the birthday thing..never has been. He's also not big on family things. His mom fell and is all broken up and black and blue and he hasn't called her yet. We heard this from his father.

Don't know why..

I don't think this is an excuse. Even if it does explain why it happened, it doesn't excuse it. He's an adult. While men may not be the best at expressing their feelings, he should say something if this is the case instead of lashing out by "forgetting" her birthday. Honestly, it's precisely because she's had such a tough year that she deserved an extra special birthday.
