be careful ordering zeppole in italy please LOL i went to a feast and went up to the first stand that said "zeppole"
i speak italian but i had no idea what "chunga" (sp?) is
well imagine biting into what you think is a fried dough ball. . .and ACTUALLY bitting into a fried dough ball with a FISH center!!!!!! 
zeppoles have ricotta or fish, fried dough balls are called something else i cant remember now. . .

I think I would be really sad if I got a zeppole with fish in it!!

Alice is dialect for anchovies....
"Acciughe" is the italian world for anchovies....
HTH!
ETA: Probably the word you heard was "acciuga" (singular for achovies)

Same here...
My family referrs to them as the Sfinge di San Giuseppe.
Zeppoles, according to my family's recipes are like the ones they sell at "italian feasts". Fried dough with powdered sugar.
I'm Irish and Italian, so we do alot of eating this time of the year!!

I also hate it.
And when I was little, my birthday cake would alwyas have cannoli filling because "everyone" likes it. Finally I convinced my parents that NO, I don't like it.
