Re: What do you think of this.....
I would be less-than -thrilled that my purse was getting passed around.
and I know that was not necessarily the intent of the OP but that would bother me more than anything.
This exact thing happened to me at a party a few weeks ago. It was a family party in a restaurant and one of the cousins was looking at my D&B bag & was totally man-handling it. She then asked if her 5 year old could walk around holding it b/c she loves D&B. UM, no..buy your own damned bag

When I was 9, I wore pink sweatshirts with kittens on them.
Right??? And our purses probably had puppies and kittens on them. Why? We were still friggin kids!
Speak for yourself I had the stylish Jordache purse in all it's kidney bean shaped glory!!

My step daughters are the same way - they are 11 and 17 now, but they are obsessed with name brand designers.... its alla round them from a very young age!!!

Re: What do you think of this.....
I think higher end designer items are more accessable to adults (and therefore children) now then they were when we were younger.
I am pretty sure my mother never had designer anything when i was growing up. Now, more adults have them so it makes sense that more children know about them.
Designers are on TV shows like project runway & the apprentice. There are red carpet preview shows for every award ceremony with follow ups online & TV for best & worst dressed etc - that puts the names out there. We live in a media age where there is no such thing as bad PR so these names are out there.

I'm 26 and I had no clue who MIchael Kors was until about 3 months ago.

I was thinking the same thing.
As for designer bags, I never did and still don't care about that stuff. This is the first time I've ever heard of this Michael Kors person. I just don't see the big deal about name brands.

Re: What do you think of this.....
Until I was 10 we lived in a very nice middle class part of LI and I LOVED my pink sweatshirts with kittens or unicorns on them!
Then we moved to a more upscale part of LI and the other 10 year olds were all about brand names, jewelry etc. It was a real culture shock. My mom was great about buying me silver shoes so I could fit in
I look back and see it as my childhood ended a little bit when we moved

ITA
It's not that long ago, that only "working/professional" women were buying Coach, LV bags. Those bags were for women, not kids.

I guess I would think not my kid - not my problem. She is going to have her hands full when this little girl gets older.
