Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?
Deciding to stay in NY while my parents and family moved to PA. It was the hardest yet BEST decision I ever made because it forced me to "grow up", move out and live on my own. I wanted to give my relationship a chance - and it worked! This in turn opened up doors to get married, buy our own house, have a baby (or two!) and start a life I don't think we would have had if I had gone with my folks and taken the easy and cheap road

Deciding to finally leave NY to build a home in NC. They're building it now and we're on our way in a few months.

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?
Breaking up with my ex of 7 years...a completely co-dependent relationship that was not helping me get further in life. And man, what a new person I became once I let that go. But that was soooo hard. Too painful for words. It's hard to make the person you're breaking up with understand when it all seemed to be 'fine.'
Meeting my DH by chance online....and meeting him in person months later (he lived in GA, I lived in NY) and spending a weekend with him. My family was TERRIFIED but I knew it would all be okay. But wow, nothing was ever more exciting than that weekend!
And then leaving my former career for a new, completely different career. Great decision there but it was so scary at first to make that decision and go back to school. I really wondered if I'd regret it someday. So far I haven't!

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?
Sadly I don't think I have made one of those decisions when I should have. I got laid off instead. I was ready to leave my old job but just wanted a new one to go to. Unfortunately, they beat me to the punch.
Fortunately the lay off allowed me to work closer to home and pursue a new career (and master's)

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?
Leaving a very stable job to go back to school for a career change just before I turned 30.
Moving back to NY after being gone for 11 years and building an adult life with wonderful and supportive friends there. I came back here to finish school and while I don't regret it (especially since it was then that I met DH) I still long for my former city and close friends to be nearby.

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?
I don't think I ever took a huge chance.
Maybe changing careers after 10 years of experience in another?
Turning down a prestigious job offer with more money for a so-so job with better hours...which lead to more money & a new career?
Breaking up with someone I lived with for 2 years because I didn't feel it was working?
I don't consider them HUGE chances though. Just things I did in the course of my life. I'm like an amoeba. I float around, not making decisions. Still waiting for the cell to divide.

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?
1. When I picked up and moved to Spain for a summer camp job
2. When I left my ex
3. When I quit my job to start my own business - in direct competition with my ex-boss.

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?
when I was fired from a job 6 1/2 years ago...I didn't know what the HELL I was going to do with myself. It ended up being the best thing to happen to me and I went back to school to become a teacher.
It was about 3 weeks before 9/11 happened....I thank GOD I was not in NYC that day

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?
Leaving my boyfriend of nine years to marry my husband who I knew only two months.
It's almost twelve years later now, so it was a good choice.

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?
Not moving to Chicago 8 years ago. I had the apartment and job all lined up. Soon after the plans were finalized, my mom had become terminally ill with cancer and I gave up everything (work, apartment, plans to move) to be with her for the final 6 months of her life. One year later, I met DH and now we have an 8 month old. I truly believe I am where I was always meant to be.

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?
1. I left a company that I did not like, who I worked for 5 years, but loved my job, and was comfortable, had awesome benefits, etc...to goto another company, starting from the bottom, 2 months before my wedding...which worked out great b/c I ahve worked myself thru 3 different positions & am where I would like to be now!
2. Breaking up w/ a guy who cheated on me...begged me to get back with him all summer & even pursued me while I was dating DH....I am so glad I stood my ground, did not take him back & married my best friend!!

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?
Buying a house and moving in with my boyfriend at the time. I gave up a sweet apartment I had in RVC and took a HUGE chance it would all work out.
We ended up getting engaged 2 months later, getting married and now 6 married years later, we have 2 kids.
So many people told me not to do it until I had a ring on my finger, but I knew it was the best thing to do, as scared as I was!

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?
6 1/2 years ago I started dating a good friend who also happened to a co-worker and my office mate. At that time the that we started dating we had already known each other for 4 years.
I was so nervous because it would have been a really big mess if things did not work out, or ended badly.
Fortunately, we are happily married now, and expecting our first child
