Update....

So I go to my OB/Gyn today for him to do bloodwork. I am waiting for the results. Anyway, he tells me that he hates ovulation predictors. He said just BD every other day after cycle day 10. Anyway, when I got home, my CBFM was broken!! I kept getting an error message. I called the help line and they said to mail it back. How on earth could it have broken in only one month's worth of use. So I guess I will try the old fashion way.

Ive got to be honest....... some doctors *advice* and blase attitude about TTC makes me Chat Icon .

I O on CD20- so according to him, I need to BD for AT LEAST 10 days in a row? OUCH..... and not good for DH's supply either.

OPKs are GREAT if you want to use them- I used them for both my pregnancies......

Re: Update....

I know. My husband and I definitely work more than most couples so it is more difficult for us to BD. It is probably not feasible for us to do the every other day thing. I thought the CBFM would help us be more efficient. He said that I would be pregnant by August. He said this isn't a science experiment. Just have sex.

Let me tell you, my RE, who specializes in getting people pregnant, relies heavily on the CBEFM, and every single month, without fail, my peak reading on my CBEFM aligns exactly with the bloodwork and ultrasound, which show I'm also ovulating.

Re: Update....

It's good to hear that your RE relies on the CBEFM and makes me feel a lot better knowing your bloodwork confirms the monitor is CORRECT!
My obgyn made a similar comment about OPKs. It's really frustrating how you get treated by some doctors Chat Icon

Re: Update....

While I think that is a little insensitive of your doctor depending on your situation, I can see his point.

TTC should be fun, and stress-free. BUT, in reality it's not always. I think it's a generational thing. We are having kids later in life. We want to plan when it will happen so it fits into our master life plan or whatever. We don't want to wait and want it to happen when we want it to happen. I asked my mom the other day if she had any problems getting prego and she said well, she never TRIED to get pregnant.

Also, as people post on here all the time, stress can greatly affect your ovulation and other aspects of your cycle.

I think if you have a perfectly normal cycle, know when you ovulate-- or at least have a general idea and are in good health-- I would not start off with the OPKs either. For others, like myself, with kooky cycles-- it's a little harder to just go it alone.

Re: Update....

i use the CBEFM and OPK's AND chart my temp everyday

the CBEFM always is right on target with all my other "O" symptoms so i do rely on it

i think sometimes SOME doctors are not as sensitive as we'd like

Re: Update....

wow. Your doctor sounds pretty insensitive. As far as OPK's go, I personally am incapable of using them. I hardly ever get a positive reading, but if they work for you than why not? My gyno encouraged me to use them to pinpoint my when I ovulate.

Re: Update....

Actually, he really wasn't being insensitive. It was more of a don't make this harder than it has to be approach. I actually found it kind of comforting and calming.

It's good to hear, b/c when I read the replies I was tending to agree with Randella. I've opened up recently to my mom as well about the use of OPKs. She and a family friend (who adopted) both thought I was getting way too ahead of myself. The family friend said that I should go home and make love to my husband, and try not to make it some complicated. At the moment, her advice was so real and refreshing...although I feel like I'm still leaning towards "the tools" to help us a bit.
