strollers
what are you getting / thinking about and why? ok, here's my thought process for what's necessary for our lifestyles
we live in a village with bumpy sidewalks. I know from pushing a granny cart around with my groceries that we NEED larger wheels (like the ones with the inflatable tires). I actually took a spill with my old cart becuase of small wheels hitting a pavement crack
other than that, we're not joggers, nor are we really mall rats.... I do have to go to target / grocery shopping, though.
I'm thinking about the bumbleride indie. It's (roughly $399) but it seems it can grow with kids a bit better than the others.... and it would fit in the trunk of my prius. most of all, it has big wheels. The adjustable handle bar is also a plus with my DH being 6'3".
what are you considering, and more importantly, WHY? what features are important?

Re: strollers
we got the bugaboo.. for many same reasons as you mentioned.
its a great ride, on VERY bumpy roads, including grass, sand and others. Its very comfy for DD.
Also, we liked the fact that it has a bassinet - DD sleeps in it at night and we drove her around in that for the first 3 months.
ITs not a great stroller if you use a car alot, but other than that, I love it.

Re: strollers
I am a bugaboo believer. I did not put money into his nursery, instead I put it into the stroller.
which worked out perfect since he jumped out of the crib at 12 months anyway.
I use mine everyday, baby is always so comfy. I take it everywhere...its been to the beach, hiking, city...

Re: strollers
I say spent money on the bugaboo, its fantastic with an infant, but imo pretty useless with a toddler. Get a Maclaren when the kid is older, they are great also!

Re: strollers
My suggestion would be to go to BBB and try out the strollers. The most popular stroller is probably the Bugaboo but there are other options
In addition to the Bugaboo the Phil & Teds, Mountain Buggy Urban, Uppa Baby Vista are great all terrain strollers.
The Bugaboo and Uppa offer bassinets for when the baby is little and the Uppas fold in one piece unlike the Bugaboos. All the strollers listed above are on the bulky side though so if you have a small car you should look at the fold to see which one would fit.
The Mountain Buggys and Phil & Teds have become very popular lately for the handling. Also for the Phil & Teds you can add a toddler seat later on if you plan on having any more kids essentially making it a double stroller without having to buy another stroller. My neighbor has one and still uses it for her 6 and 4 year old kids....she walks alot and we live in the city where the pavement can be uneven..cobblestone sidewalks etc. She loves it. Shes had it for a long time and it still looks great sans the fabric which is faded but that can always be replaced. Also the Phil & Teds and Mountain Buggys have bigger seats that last longer as opposed to the Bugaboo which Racheee made a good point about since the seat is a little small for a toddler IMO.

Re: strollers
My advice would be to get what you really want (and can afford) now otherwise you will always wish you did. I know a few people that wanted something, bought something else and ended up spending more $ to get what they originally wanted. Especially if this is your first baby you will get a lot of use out of a stroller in the years to come.

Re: strollers
thanks so much for everyone's input.
I will definitely not skimp on the stroller, and will go to BBB to check them out the bugaboo is seriously out of our budget.... My primary concern is that we require both city and suburban elements... all terrain, but still on the lighter side, and can fit into the back of my prius.
from what I've read, I think the indie is the lightest of the all terrain strollers.... but I definitely have to see on in person and compare them... the phil and ted's option of a toddler seat is very tempting too....

Re: strollers
Also www.returnsforsale.com sometimes has Mountain Buggys, Bugaboos and Phil & Teds for cheap. They are returns but mostly in good shape.

Re: strollers
we got the bob revolution because it has great suspension, large wheels, all terrain, and the infant car seat can be put in it. we plan to use it for walking around the very uneven sidewalks (we live in brooklyn and rarely drive). we do jog and will eventually use it for that. i also got a small maclaren for quick errands.

Re: strollers
We live in the city without a car and take public transportation a lot. I'm considering the Micralite Toro because it is very light, but still has the suspension and hard-wearing tires that I think we'd need for lots of walking around, uneven streets, etc. It also folds up really tiny. But it is kind of expensive.
I also want something where the carseat can be put directly onto the frame without having to have the existing seat unit on as well. We take the train to visit parents and usually someone picks us up on the other side, so we need to have a carseat with us, but I definitely do not want all the extra bulk.
Other thoughts are the Bugaboo Bee or the Britax Vigor. I'm just worried that the Bee is too small and tires/suspension not 'hearty' enough and the Britax is too big/heavy.

Re: strollers
We went with the Chicco Cortina and the Baby Trend Snap N Go (for quick trips to the stores).
You really have to try them out in the store and see what fits best for you.

Re: strollers
I definitely agree that you need to go to the store(s) and test drive them. What looks good on paper, doesn't always feel as good.
We registered for the Bumbleride Flyer.
