Went to the RE this am....so upset - UPDATE
So I went in today at CD12 after taking 50mg clomid (CD5-9) to see how I was progressing. The PA said my uterian lining was great, but that I had a ton of very small follies (8mm). She said by this time in my cycle, she usually like see follies larger than this. I told her I have very long cycles and that I don't get AF on my own (PCOS) and she said there is a possibility that I may O late. My blood tests will give me a better idea if there is still hope. I am so upset. I went in there thinking I'd have something (and was ready for an IUI soon) and the thought of having this cycle be a bust really stinks. Has this happened to anyone else?

Yup. I was SO disappointed. But, a week later, I started ovulating.
Everyone's cycle is different and every month can be different as well. I usually ovulate on CD14. Last month, I went in on CD12 adn my follies were TINY. I didn't ovulate until CD21!
There's still hope

Re: Went to the RE this am....so upset
Don't give up--I have a feeling I'm going to be a late O'er, since my cycles (when they were regular) used to be about 40 days long.
I would ask to come back around Wednesday to do another check. You never know!

Re: Went to the RE this am....so upset
I'm sorry. It took me two rounds of clomid at 50mg to produce one good follie. Give it a little more time. I know how disappointing it is to have no good follies when you go for an appointment. Hang in there!

Re: Went to the RE this am....so upset
I think that women with PCOS tend to be slow growers when it comes to follicles. Day 12 is still early. The follicles tend to grow 1-2 mm per day so don't panic. I usually O on day 17 or 18 and on day 12 my follicles were tiny too.

ITA with this- try not to get too upset yet--- I ended up w/ 3 good follies late in my cycle last time- it's depressing to go there and hear that but it's so great when you finally get to start seeing something! Keep your fingers crossed, I'm thinking you're going to O late... it's common w/ PCOS.

Re: Went to the RE this am....so upset
Thanks so much for the reassurance. I'm hoping that I am O'ing late due to the PCOS. It's so discouraging to go there and get that news. I am waiting for a call back with my blood work - I'm praying that it shows that I'm not ready to ovulate just yet - and it will give my follies more time to grow. Can they still grow at this point even though I'm done with the clomid?
I usually don't ovulate on my own at all. Does clomid make you ovulate on your own? If not, will I just take the trigger to force O?

Your follicles should continue to grow eventhough you finished taking the Clomid. The trigger shot is usually given when your follicles reach a certain size indicating that they have matured and when blood estrogen levels reach a certain level. When I was on Clomid I got the trigger shot when the largest follicle(s) was around 18-20mm.

Re: Went to the RE this am....so upset
Just got a call from the office - Have to go in on Tuesday AM for another blood and sono - seems that I am NOT about to O. Does this mean there is still hope? Could the follies grow some more???

You won't ovulate if the follies aren't big enough. My RE would give until CD21 for the follies to grow.

Thanks for the info. I am going in on Tuesday AM - CD 15 to see if there is any improvement. Keep your fingers crossed!

I agree with what everyone else said. I'm also a late O'er even on the clomid. CD12 is still early.

The Clomid helps the follicles to mature and you can ovulate with no further assistance. However, the trigger shot is given once you have mature follicles to ensure they rupture and you ovulate. Don't stress too much yet, I was on the Metformin (no Clomid) and the cycle where I got pregnant I ovulated on Day 22 so all hope is not lost. Lots of luck!!!
