anyone have IBS?

I've had IBS for several years now and I've always heard that usually when you get preggo it tends to go away....well mine has been horrendous! It seems that everything has been making me sick and between that and my m/s I'm really not enjoying being preggo.
Does anyone else who has IBS suffering like this? Or any tips as to what I should do? I have already cut out all diary except cheese, switching to soy, and I could start eating bland again...I just don't know I'm at my wits end.

any advice would be wonderful TIA!

I'm 10wks and its really becoming intense now. I'm lactose intolerant as well, I really can't even drink Lactaid b/c it makes me gassy. I drink 8th continent soy milk, I don't eat ice cream. I just don't know what else I should be doing.

Re: anyone have IBS?

When I was pg with my DS my IBS did not bother me at all- actually I ate things that normally I couldn't tolerate! With this pg I was a mess in the beginning, getting sick all the time and losing weight!!! OB sent me back to my Gastro DR who put me on meds that I have to take with every meal.

Re: anyone have IBS?

my first trimester was really bad with it, I got so scared I was hurting the baby every time I had an attack. I am also lactose intolerant so that took a tole as well. I've made sure to cut out all soda, spicey foods, most milk and dairy products - i try to stick to soy as much as I can, fried food, anything with seeds in it and tons of other stuff that I've learned along the way irritates my stomache. the 2nd trimester I wound up completely constipated and had to go on Colace for a while. So far so good for the last 3 months but i'm also scared of what i'm in for after the baby gets here...
Feel Better I know what a pain it can be.

Re: anyone have IBS?

Yeah, if my IBS is going to continue like this I plan on calling a GI dr...I have meds that I took prior to getting pg...but I don't know if they are safe to take now.

Re: anyone have IBS?

I have IBS as well. When I was pregnant with my dd, I felt so much better. I could eat everything...all the IBS offenders. After having her, I don't know if it was hormone related, but it came back even worse.

Well, I am pregnant again. My IBS is so bad right now. I can't eat any dairy, sweets or fats. I am on a very bland diet. I am hoping once the 1st trimester is over I will start to feel better.

One natural thing you might want to try is Calcium. I read recently how taking Calcium 3x's a day helps IBS sufferers. I started taking 2'xs a day about two weeks ago and I do think it has helped. Drs. say you can take Imodium, but I have been trying not to take anything while pregnant. it's been tough!

Good luck and I hope you feel better!!

Re: anyone have IBS?

I have IBS and GIRD. However since getting diagnosed I was able to get it under control.

Since getting pregnant I have not had any problems at all. But I am very careful about what I eat because I am trying not to agrivate my GIRD.
