feeling frantic

Well I had to go out on maternity early by about a good 4 weeks and we so cannot afford this. We do have some money put away but in the past month that I have already been off we have gone into the money a lot more then I would like to have. I am begging my doctor at this point to delivery me just so that I can recover and get back to work. I just did my bills tonight and I wanted to cry because we aren't making it at all and I still have at least another 4 weeks before I can return to work being as the baby isn't even here yet. I don't have a clue as to how we are going to manage this. DH works but he's on salary and makes a certain amount per month no surprises, which very barely makes the actual bills not including food, gas, etc, plus misc things that always seem to come up. Sorry I'm just like sitting here figuring out what the hell we are going to do. My mom is no help she keeps telling me that we need to get out of the apartment we are in, and I keep telling her would you like to loan me money so that I can pay off my bills and buy a house. I'm just sooooooo stressed. Sory just needed to vent.

I"m so sorry..stress is the last thing you need right now.

Is there anyone else you can borrow from? A house would be even more $$$$ and not make things better right now.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: feeling frantic

no his family has nothing hell we just had to chip in because DH's brother passed away and had no life insurance.
my family has already given us as much as they can. I just really need to get back to work and am now thinking of shortening my leave depending on when the baby actually gets here.

Re: feeling frantic

nope again to the pay.. I work as a per diam sub teacher and we get nothing and an independent spec ed teacher taking cases on the side yet again we get nothing for taking off time.
I'm going to try to go through the bills tomorrow and see if we can cut back anything we have which is close to impossible because most of it is rent, student loans, car loans, things like that.

I also have hefty law school loans, and I remember reading about postponing payment on your loans if you are having a financial hardship- THIS is DEFINITELY one of those!! Who is your loan with? If it's Citibank I know you will be able to get one...and usually it is a year or so. It doesn't ruin your credit or anything- it's like they put a freeze on your account... Give it a shot sweetie!! Re: feeling frantic

i would look into state assistance. Its not easy going right back to work after you give brith, this is what the assistance is there for.

Re: feeling frantic

You can defer your student loans due to unemployment and I believe pregnancy/medical issues. Then go out and get yourself a 0% interest credit card. They are everywhere. I have a Chase Visa and it is great for emergencies and this is an emergency. It will all work out. I know how scared you are but it WILL work out. Re: feeling frantic

Just relax...money is money and will always be there. This is your time to enjoy your child! You might just have to not pay some cc bills and defer your student loans. Sit down and figure out where you can cut back, etc. It's just for a month or so, and then you get back on your feet. I've done this a few times and have always got back on track ASAP, just don't get into the habit of overspending and not paying and you'll be fine.

In ten years from now...you won't remember how much you owed and to whom...but you will remember your childs first month at home. So ENJOY it!!

Re: feeling frantic

Write down everything, cut all nonessentials, maybe ask family to temp take take the pets (I know that's hard, just an idea, pets are expensive), call all loan companies and ask for a few months deferred, buy used baby gear (I used craigslist to find furniture.)

It will be ok! Chat Icon Try not to stress too much.

Re: feeling frantic

I would also say to get a 0% intererst for one year credit card! The offers are all over. Also, being home you can save a lot on food with coupons and only getting essentials, no more meal out, no more buying clothes or extras. every little bit helps! Good luck please please please try to relax for your baby! You will work the rest of your life, try to take it easy and not stress as its so important for you baby!

Re: feeling frantic

I would also try to cut excessive expenses that you may not really need - can you do without cable? Or get a smaller plan? What about your cell - can you get a different less expensive plan? And look at your home phone bill too - do you have any "extras" like call waiting, caller ID, stuff like that you can get rid of? And call around and see if another phone company will give you a better deal. All the other advise from the ladies is wonderful as well!!! I hope this helps! Chat Icon

Try to buy things on sale and stock up when you can. Buy meat and freeze it when on sale. Then you'll be able to cook a meal for a few dollars that can last a few days. Try calling your creditors and let them know that you're not working. Usually they will work with you.Chat Icon

Re: feeling frantic

thank you for all the ideas ladies.... I'm going to sit down with my husband tonight and try to go through each and every single bill to see if we can lower it even just a little. If not we will be eating mac and cheese and peanut butter and jelly only for the next couple of weeks ... or whatever is really really cheap.
