So upset about Fortunoff !!
if that store closes, it will the end of an era.
I still don't understand how this can happen. everytime I am in that store, it's mobbed.

I don't think they are closing 
I know they filed for chapter 11 or something - but I didn't heat that they were closing.
Or did I miss something?

I just found out that they're being sold next week to the highest bidder - and some of those who are bidding are liquidation companies

As of early Feb, NRDC Equity Partners (owners of Lord & Taylor) was aquiring Fortunoff. They have it posted on their website.

private quity doesn't mean the store will close- it normally means just the opposite
my company is currently owned by the private equity firm- we have a board of directors that are made of people to help get the company back on the right track and some people that bought the company
the goal is to get the company back up and profitable and take it public
I hope the same is true for fortunoff-

frankly, while the store location and name are the same as years back, the prices, merchandise and service are NOT. They aren't the bargain they once were, they have less unique stuff than before, and the service has taken a nose dive.... shopping there is more of a hassle than it's worth.
ex: I had to drive there 5 times to get 8 matching wine glasses that weren't damaged. One box of 2 glasses had one broken stem, another one was missing a glass... and they keep virtually nothing in stock these days. I actually was told the ordered items arrived, and drove 40 min to find out they didn't know where the items were.
It will take a super-overhaul to return them to their former glory.
