What is Rho-Gam?

What is it?...When are you supposed to get tested for it and how does it work?...oh and is it safe????

My doc never even mentioned it but Im guessing b/c its early....Im 12 weeks

Rhogam is a shot you get if you are Rh-

Your Dr would have told you if you needed it when you did all of your initial pg bloodwork, its one of the things they check for. You usually get the shot at 28 weeks and then, once your baby is born if he/she is Rh+ you would get it again.

If your blood type is negative you need the shot. For example I am AB- so I had to have the shot. When my daughter has children she is A- she will also have to have the shot.

You need it at 28 weeks if you are negative and he is positive.

I have to get this shot because I am AB- and DH is O+. The doctor explained that I will get the shot at 28 weeks for precautionary measures. When the baby is born, will have it's blood tested. If it has positive blood, I will need another shot. If it has negative blood, I will not need the shot and I never needed the one at 28 weeks, but they don't know until the baby is born.

It has something to do with the mixing of positive and negative blood types. It's a shot you get in the butt, and I don't think it is really a big deal.

I'm A- and DH is O+, so I got the shot at 28 weeks (I was told after my first round of bloodwork back in August that I was RH-).

Definetely check with your doctor, but I'm sure he/she would have said something to you by now.
