How long were you TTC before you decided to meet with an RE?
We've been TTC for almost a year w/o any luck. I'm 30 (will be 31 in July) and DH is 40 (will be 41 in October).
I don't know if it's denial or what, but I just can't bring myself to start looking at REs and go for a consult.
Insread, I keep thinking, maybe we're doing something wrong or we're not timing our BDing right...I don't know what.  Regardless of the reason, we have never had a BFP and I'm starting to get worried but in the same breath scared to death of going to see an RE. I think, in my mind, if we do see one that we could really mean have a problem and I'm just not sure how to handle that.
I'm sorry for the rant...anyway, if you could let me know I'd appreciate it!

We waited one year. When I finally went I was 35 and DH was 40. That was two years ago.

We tried for about 6 months (I am 36, DH is 37), but I just had a feeling something wasn't right. I went to an RE, had bloodwork done, and I was right. Egg reserve tested low and so did egg quality. DH had a SA and tested below average motility and numbers. I'm glad I went with my gut instinct....

6 months - we were both over 35 and wanted to get moving!
Chances of getting pg for a healthy 25 year old per month is only like 20-25%... just to keep in mind.

We were serioulsy trying for 8 months (not preventing for 10). I am 26 and DH is 34. I would definately make an appt., it can't hurt to start some tests.

Well DH and I were married 3 years BD with no protection and nothing happened...Spoke to my Gyn and he put me on Clomid for 7 months (not properly monitered mind you)...I finally said -something isnt right here and got the courage up to speak to an RE and was so glad I did- Got my BFP after 3 months...I honestly feel that if you know in your gut that something isnt right, its best to speak to a professional- even just for a consult...Good Luck !!!

I waited 6 months to see a RE and I am in my early 30's. No problems were found with me or DH so we are unexplained IF at this point. Eventhough I was scared of going to the RE, I was more scared of losing time not knowing why I wasn't getting PG. We are now going through IUI's and fertility meds to try to increase our chances. GL!

about a year. It is very scary at first but then it gives you some peace of mind that you are under the care of someone who's goal is to get you pregnant.
I remember how upset I was when my ob/gyn sent me to an RE, but as soon as we sat down for our consult I felt we were in good hands. In fact, now I wish I had gone sooner.

We waited almost a year. I tried to convince DH to go sooner. However, he was reluctant to. We already knew that we would have issues but he hoped that if I temped and we used OPKs that it would work. Needless to say, it didn't. I am really glad that we went to a RE. The RE sent DH to a good urologist who is helping with his low testosterone. I was also happy to have a thorough workup.

I waited a year before I went to an RE, but I wish I'd gone sooner. We have been having trouble since 10/05. We went to the RE when I was 33 and DH was 35.
Honestly, if you don't need a referral, I'd just go. It doesn't hurt. Lots of luck to you

I knew I had problems from the start but stayed with my obgyn( LOVE HER) through the initial testing, clomid and what would have been IUI (I stopped ovulating on clomid) Then went to an RE when we needed IVF.... about 6 months

I waited 5 cycles. I had a feeling something was very wrong and I was right. So glad I didn't wait a year. I would still be waiting instead of working thru some of the issues.
