OMG I may need to get my rings cut off

LIke an idiot I tried taking my e-ring and wedding band off last night which I was able to do with a minor struggle. Then I put them BACK ON. 30 minutes later I feel a pulse on my finger and the first joint is competely swollen. DH and I have been trying to get them off since to no avail. We tried oil, ice, heat everything..... I am SOOOO upset I don't want them cut off, but if I have to then I rather get a jeweler to do it. Any reccs? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

don't give up yet....

don't use heat..... maybe try getting your circulation going a bit more by going for a walk and not aggravating your finger further, so the swelling can go down a bit.... then vaseline + cold water..... try a gentle twisting motion

i would leave your finger be for a bit. Then honestly i'd go outside for a while, making take a walk. Coldness makes your fingers shrink. Heat makes them swell.

I take it by oil, you tried baby oil?

I tried olive oil, lotions, soap anything slippery.

definitely try windex. spray it all over and rub it on your finger and quickly try to take the rings off.

a jeweler told me this trick when mine were stuck (not from being PG though, so I hope it works!) He said it causes temporary constriction... good luck!

Keep your hand elevated for a while...above your heart...and definitely keep the hand cool, NO heat. After elevating for a little bit, try oil or anything slippery again. Slowly twist the rings side to side instead of pulling straight off...see if that works. I hope it does Chat Icon

Try soaking it in ice cold water for a few minutes.

Definitely cold water or cold air for a while...then try cold water to get them off.

Re: OMG I may need to get my rings cut off

I had to have both my engagement ring and band cut off. I went to a jeweler and it is very easy for them to do. And don't worry, they can solder it back together for you after the birth with no trouble.

Re: OMG I may need to get my rings cut off

Try soap and water - that worked for me. And in the future make sure that you drink plenty of water.

I noticed that when I don't drink enough water, I retain water and my fingers swell.

Try doing it in the morning when you might be less swollen.

Re: OMG I may need to get my rings cut off

SO here is the latest. I got my E-ring off with lotion and yanking on it for over an hour (my finger is soo bruised up). However my wedding band is still on AND it is smaller than the e-ring so I am not sure I will be able to pull that off. My finger is not pulsing though so I am going to try to wait it out to see if the swelling goes down....thanks girls for all the suggestions.Chat Icon
