I hate my job but....
I have been at my job for 3 years and I am seriously bored to tears her. I feel that I am being under utilized while my supervisor works crazy hours. Anyway, I have been looking for a new job but now that I am pregnant I am torn what to do. My current place does pay for maternity leave while I know most places wont especially since I would have only been there a short while (depending on when I get the job.) Would you stick it out somewhere that you were miserable if you knew that you'd get your 8 weeks paid. (I know I am having a c-section).

Re: I hate my job but....
How much longer will you have to work? To be honest - for PAID leave - I would stay. It is so hard to transition to a new job will pregnant, figure out what your benefits are, when they kick in, if your doctors are still on the plan etc...

I would and then start to send those resumes out asap while on maternity leave! you don't want to lose out getting your maternity leave paid.

I would stay. It's hard to find companies willing to hire you when you are pregnant (even though they aren't suppose to discriminate) and even if they do, you aren't covered by FMLA or their group disability. I am in the same boat and I'm sticking it out even without maternity pay.

Unless your dream job comes knocking on your door I would definitely try to tough it out until after the baby is born.

Re: I hate my job but....
I would definitely stick it out. like the pp have said, it is really hard to get another job PG and most places will not allow you to take FMLA or maternity leave unless you've been there for at least 6 months or a year.

stay. being bored is better than having to prove yourself at a new place and loosing out on paid leave. better your boss is insanly busy than you. day dream about your baby, baby names, baby toys, the day will go by quicker!

Re: I hate my job but....
enjoy the time you have now. if your bored do things for yourself until the baby comes. i made lists, hospital list. list for dh on how to take care of olivia while im in the hospital. find ways to use the time now and when your maternity time is up find a new job or interview during your maternity leave. but i wouldnt leave now as you may not find a place that will pay maternity or most places require you be there 6 months before any benefits.

Re: I hate my job but....
Absolutely. This is exactly what I did. Don't give up the money. Also, if you start a new job you will not be elligible for FMLA and it might not be secure at this point.

Re: I hate my job but....
Thanks ladies. I got offered a new job but they are going to let me start off part time and see if I want to make the switch. I will have to come back here for at least a month to not have to pay back my leave but I agree with a lot of you that it is worth it. It will be exhausting working my full time job along with a part time job but it is a great opportunity and we need the money right now. We are in the process of expanding our house, redoing our kitchen and we plan on buying a new car within the next week or so.

Re: I hate my job but....
First of all Erica....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!
Second, no I wouldn't stay at my job if I was that miserable. You are a great person, and you need to be happy.
Is there any way you can collect unemployment when you leave?
Maybe you can try to save save save what you would lose of the 8 weeks paid and that would make up for it. I know it's easier said than done, but if it's worth it to you......
Look at me giving you advice......
I just read you post about the new job.....good luck!!!!!

Re: I hate my job but....
I wouldn't consider leaving my job while pg b/c the benefits are too great and I feel like there are enough transitions right now - I couldn't imagine starting a new position at this point. I hope it gets better for you

I hate my job too but I am toughing it out b/c I know I wont get the same maternity benefits that i know I will get here.
I would just tough it out. If it gets to a point where you cant function and it's taking a toll no your health then I would leave.
