Thermometers
I've read that the Temporal artery thermometers are better (more accurate and can be used even if baby has an ear infection) than ear thermometers. My BFF suggested I register for the ear type which she used for both her kids.
What's the consensus on these? Which do you prefer? Are the Temporal one's easy to use? I was going to call a Pediatrician and find out, but thought I'd start here with mom's/mom's to be.

Re: Thermometers
This may or may not be helpful, my future pediatrician & the instructors of the infant care class & CPR/first aid classes I took all say that the only truly accurate thermometer is an old school rectal.

I asked my ped this today at appointment and she said rectal is the most accurate and best to use.

Re: Thermometers
If you do a search on the temporal thermometers on Parenting you will see alot of us didn't like ours. I know in my case it was a waste of $50. It proved to be pretty inaccurate for us. I love this Vicks rectal thermometer. It is shaped so you don't insert it too far up. AIt was rec to us by our ped.
Vicks Rectal

Re: Thermometers
I registered for both a rectal thermometer as well as an ear one.
My sister swears that the ear thermometer is just as accurate, but to be on the safe side I did both.

Re: Thermometers
most doctors will only accept a rectal reading...save your money, do not buy a temporal thermomenter..IMHO, they do not work
stick with the old fashion rectal

Re: Thermometers
I'm going with the rectal thermometer too. They are the most accurate! Most pediatricians will tell you to stay away from the ear ones.
This is the one my friend recommended Image Attachment(s):

Re: Thermometers
Thank you all so much for this info... I'm taking the temporal and ear off my registries... I'm going to get the Vicks rectal. I'm glad that it's a digital... I was concerned about a glass thermometer and reading it correctly.
