Had to take my baby to the ER
I posted a few weeks ago that a cat was hanging out by my back door. She kept coming back so we let her in. She's been with us for a little over a week now. Still no one is claiming her. We're going to keep her if no one comes. So Iggy tries to play with her as if she were a pup. Kitty is really calm and just lays there, but can't stand it after a while and swats at him. This just eggs him on and he continues. The rest of the time, they're cuddled up on the couch together.
So Sunday morning, I'm still in bed. DH is in the kitchen and I hear Iggy (my pup scream). I run inside to see what's wrong and he's running around playing. DH said to catch him because the cat just scratched him. (he's really hard to catch when he gets to running around the house) When we caught him, his eye was bleeding I hold him tight in my arms and I'm about to start bawling. I gather my composure after a few seconds and DH and I run and take him to the E-vet.
Turns out there was no damage to his eye . Just his conjunctiva was scratched. We were given an ointment to apply to prevent infection. The vet said that they see this a lot and they even had to remove some dogs' eyes
We've been keeping them separated since then, but I dont like having to lock them up

Re: Had to take my baby to the ER
I'm sorry you have to keep them separated, hopefully at some point you can reintroduce them. I'm glad to hear Iggy was ok.

Oh no, that's terrible. It's too bad you have to keep them separated, hopefully they will be able to live together peacefully.
I hope Iggy's feeling better soon!

Re: Had to take my baby to the ER
So sorry!
I think once the pup gets older and calmer he will know better.
My dogs run after my sister's cats. I always worry about them scratching their eyes, but luckily they have never struck.
My neighbor's cat whacked my dog across the face when he pounced at her.
Sounds like overall they are getting along great. I say for now, when you are not in sight of them, probably better to keep them apart. But once the dog gets older, he will likely calm down or learn to not pester kitty too much. He is being a playful pup and kitties don't know what to do with that.
