Anyone skip the hospital tour
I just called Winthrop and the tour offered is at 1PM on a Monday! I am not taking a day off from work for this and I work in Manhattan so it's a PITA to get there. Won't they show me where to go when necessary?!

Re: Anyone skip the hospital tour
I did the tour and honestly it wasn't really anything important. As long as you know where to go when the time comes you should be ok.

Re: Anyone skip the hospital tour
I took my tour, but honestly it wasn't much of anything since DD stays in the room with me after birth. So they didn't show me anything involving nursery or anything like that.
It was more of answering my questions, and that was done in the L&D room.
I would see if maybe you can compile a list of questions that you have, and call the L&D floor, and see if there's anyway that they can take 10 minutes and answer everything for you.

Re: Anyone skip the hospital tour
I think it depends on what you know about the hospital and if you want to get an idea of what to expect.
I went on a tour of my hospital, because I'd never seen the L&D unit. They gave us a thorough explaination of what to do, where we will go, showed us the L&D room, c-sec room, recovery room, the nursery, and explaned things like the baby going to the nursery for 2 hours post delivery (daddy can go with baby).
I thought it was great!
But I wouldn't take off work to go. Don't they do it on weekends or evenings?

Re: Anyone skip the hospital tour
I wouldn't take a day off from work for a tour. With my DS I was going to go, but it got canceled because of a snowstorm. I was going to go back, but I had an early visit to L&D at 37 weeks (turned out to be nothing) and I felt that prepared me enough. I wouldn't worry about it. When it's actually time they will walk you through everything.

Re: Anyone skip the hospital tour
I skipped it but I was very familiar with the hospital beforehand so it didn't bother me. Personally I don't think it's necessary at all though. Just find out ahead of time where you have to go so that you're not wandering around when your time is here. They will tell you everything else after you have the baby.

Re: Anyone skip the hospital tour
I didn't even know where the hospital was until I was taken there in an ambulance during week 17. Poor DH went to the wrong hospital to meet me because another one is right down the road. We planned on doing a dry run to find the hospital around week 26. OOPS!
So, obviously we didn't do the tour. I don't see the need.

Re: Anyone skip the hospital tour
please, i was so annoyed when i called and was told only mondays at 1. who can do that?
anyway, we never did it. and i'm glad we didn't b/c i went into labor at 32 weeks so it would have been a waste.
when you go into labor,go right to the new life center and get checked in.

Re: Anyone skip the hospital tour
Great! Now I feel better about skipping it. With all my regular appts, childbirth class, BF class, appts w/ an endo, etc. it's getting to be too much.

I went to L & D about 4 times in the month prior to having DS anyway, so I got my fill of that place
