Need help for a friend....
My girlfriend has two large breed dogs (Rottie and an Akita) at 80lbs a piece. They're giant teddy bears...unfortunatly their breeds (as you all know) have a bad reputation.
It's very difficult for her to find a new home. She prefers to rent a house with a yard for them.
(She just got out of a 7yr relationship where her and her boyfriend lived in a house....he got the house with fenced in yard and she got the dogs.)
They are her life. Currently she is living at home with her parents.
Whenever we do a search online and select 'large breed dogs' we're given results that clearly state NO PETS. This is frustrating to no end.
If anyone has any useful information please FM me.
Thanks!

Has she tried going through a realtor? She may have more luck finding a property that allows pets.
Try cross posting this on the home board.

Re: Need help for a friend....
Does she want to keep the dogs? There are realtors that can assist in finding a rental that will allow dogs. Is she in NYC, Nassau, Suffolk?

ditto--it might cost a month's rent---but chances are a realtor will work to find her a place that is suitable for her situation

Re: Need help for a friend....
I definitely agree with the realtor idea...she could also try looking on Craigslist, but that won't guarantee that she can bring the dogs.

Re: Need help for a friend....
One thing I did when looking, even if it said 'No Pets' - I still called and asked. I offered to leave an ADDITIONAL $1,000 security deposit on top of what they asked for (the rent was $500, I lived upstate at the time), the first place I asked agreed to it. I had a rottie (now deceased) and I also threw in the "I'm a single female living alone and feel safer with my big dog for protection." It can't hurt to ask, right! Money is an incredible motivator.
