I know she didn't just get out when I came home - b/s she came in hungry and chowed door
this is the second time in 2 weeks - besides all the other times when I notice her go

I would say to call out her name before you leave to make sure she is inside. Does your neighbor have a cat? Something is drawing her up there.

Re: Maggie keeps escaping!
I wont leave the house unless I physically see both of our cats. I don't want them getting locked in the basement or the closet when we're gone for the day.
Yes, it adds to my time when I'm rushing out the door, but I do it for my peace of mind.
One of our cats loves to run up the stairs to our old apartment. Any time he can sneak out the door, he does. For a fat cat, he's pretty quick.
Thankfully your cat is running upstairs, and not outside. I'd be so upset if one of my cats got out.

My sister would sit by the door and leave it open...when her cat tried to go out, she would spritz her with water from a spray bottle - it took her a while, but that cat doesn't dare go out the door anymore and she can leave it wide open.

That is a good idea. Jack was doing this about two months ago. He would run out and hide under the deck. Then one day, my dog chased Jack out from under the deck and he jumped onto the fence and I was panicking cause there are 5 vicious dogs next door who were at the fence barking at him! He was soo scared - he even sprayed. I could barely reach him, so I had to grab him by his tail cause I was so afraid he would jump down into the yard with the dogs (he only knows my dog who is a sweetie) and get eaten! He was so afraid he attached me (thinking I was the dogs) - I had three huge bite markes and scratches. But he was ok, thank goodness. Needless to say, this scared the bejesus out of him and he doesn't try to get out anymore! He is too sweet to go outside - he doesn't realize it is dangerous!

this is something that could work- we have just started using the spray bottle with her
I don't walk out the door with out seeing both of them - but my poor DH is still wearing a neck brace- so I don't he can see her - she is QUICK
I just want to break her of this before we by a house- she has no fear right now

no cat- she is afraid of them-
I am not sure what it is- but it's always up the stairs- never down- which is good

We try this too. Our dogs charge the door so it does help, best bet to help enforce their safety.
