? re: gardners park in bayshore
How is that dog park? I heard a few negative things about it. Mostly about flees and aggresion. Wanted to know opinions. I would like to take my dads dog out to a dog park one day and let him interact and play with other dogs.

I don't think it is that bad. Have not had a problem with fleas and ticks but you take that chance in any wooded or high grass area you go. THe only thing i don't like is all dogs are supposed to be leashed and some people just let thier dogs run. But i am sure you will have that at most dog parks that dogs are supposed to be leashed

Re: ? re: gardners park in bayshore
This is more of a trail and open area (not fenced in)
If you are looking for a dog run, i would visit West Hill Park in Huntington/Melville
Back to Gardners, like the above poster, its all woods, trees, dirt so there is an increase risk of ticks. I rarely like Scruff sniff the side...
At the end of the walk down, you will be rewarded by a nice view of Great South Bay..there is sand but seaweed..some people let there dogs go into the water but most just turn around...

It's a fenced in area where you can let your dog off the leash and just run

Re: ? re: gardners park in bayshore
It's not a bad park, but as others said it's not a fenced in dog run. It is trails, with a pond at the entrance and the bay at the end of the main trail. My biggest problem with it is that where the dogs can go in the water at the bay is a very small area and full of tiny reeds....It's not my favorite place to go - but in the summer it's not too bad. I've never had a problem with Misty picking up fleas or ticks in any park - but we Frontline her religiously because she is in the woods all the time.
