Entertaining questions....

I am SO not a cook and I get totally stressed out entertaining. Well, my BIL just had a crisis in his life and is staying with us for awhile. We're having friends over today to lend him some support (like 15 people + kids) and I tend to get very stressed in situations where I feel like I have to provide lots of food....I always feel judged. Anyway...I told DH I refuse to get stressed today...so we ordered a platter of sandwiches from a local deli with a big bowl of pasta salad. We're also probably going to order pizza. I am so much LESS stressed now that we have food and I don't have to prepare anything....but, I feel like a cheat b/c I'm not struggling in the kitchen to make something homemade....my Mom says "if you can afford it, it's the way to go"...but I still feel like our guests will probably think that I'm being lazy or something. What are your thoughts?

Re: Entertaining questions....

I am sure all your guests would prefer to have you spend the afternoon with visiting with them opposed to you spending most of the time in the kitchen trying to get food out on the table!

Sandwich platter, pasta salad & pizza sounds perfect to me!

Re: Entertaining questions....

I almost NEVER cook when entertaining. Thanksgiving turkey is where it begins and ends for me. My DH does more cooking/grilling when we host. I clean and decorate. Chat Icon We just find restaurants that have fab food and have things catered. I have a binder with all our local restaurant menus in it. Chat Icon

Re: Entertaining questions....

I had 17 ppl over for Xmas and I kinda felt like a cheat too bc everyone brought something and all I really did was make a few desserts - they were homemade, but I felt like I should have main a main dish as well. I am not an experienced cook so I would hate to make something for the first time for a bunch of people and have it s u c k. There is nothing wrong with catering! Plus you have Maddie to look after. I agree. If I were a guest, I would think ,Wow, she is so smart to not have to worry about cooking and dishes!
