Spinoff to the Green thread - my own ignorance...
I learned a lot from that thread - even with some of the arguments.
Arguments aren't bad - it shows people are passionate and willing to discuss their views...
B ut, I never realized bottled water isn't inspected the way tap water is. DH is firmly against tap water - we use the Brita filter...
But, we are both guilty of buying bottles of water when on the road. I am guilty fo having the recycling bin FULL of bottles.
I am going to make a cosncious effort to buy fewer bottles. When I lived in Vermont, EVERYONE used Nalgene bottles. I had them in every color. I will go to a sporting store and get another one - or order the one someone posted with the filter on it!
Thanks everyone!

It's not really so black and white.
Bottled water is subject to FDA inspection and labeling requirements, including (among other things) the bottled water standard of quality, which is as stringent as the quality standard for public water supplies.

Additionally, bottled water has more stringer requirements than local water for lead contamination.

I'm NOT against going green at all -- but the idea that bottled water isn't really regulated / inspected isn't true. I realize the standards are different and there are some loopholes, but it's not as if bottled water isn't inspected / regulated at all.
ETA -- Regarding the argument that the FDA cannot / does not regulate bottled water that is bottled / sold entirely in one state... most states have bottled water quality standard laws governing the quality of bottled water. That, of course, varies from state to state.
I just think that, depending on where you live, it can be a craps shoot as to whether bottled or tap is safer / better.

You're welcome. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't mass hysteria over bottled water not being regulated. I wasn't trying to take away from your efforts to go green. I applaud them!

I should also add that I think the FDA / state regulations relating to bottled water have changed a lot over the past few years -- so it's tough to always have the exact latest news.
