I've had a few CDs over the year. I choose my term based on the interest rate and when I feel that I will need access to the money. Also, if interest rates are currently low (which they are), I will put it in for a shorter term so that when it matures, I can renew it for a higher rate/different term.

i have one for dd - i think we did a 9 mth one back in august..i figure once it is up we will see where the interest rates are and invest it there.

We have varying cds, all different terms and amts.
To chose how long depends on your total amt and what you leave yourself with in case of emergencies. Only you can figure that out.

Thanks! I'm thinking of doing a 3 month w/ country wide since the rate is pretty high. of course they are not doing well right now, but it is FDIC insured. If I don't do that one, I'll do the wamu 6 month
