Puppy Mill Haters - I have a story to make you proud!!
I'm an 8th grade teacher, and I am just so proud of one of my students!!
She was visiting a pet store over the recent school break when she and her friend noticed the puppies were in cages with horrible conditions. They had wire mesh on the floor of the cages, which were apparently very small. No food to be seen, and their only nourishment was hamster-type water bottles for them to drink from.
She is a total animal lover, so she and her friend found the owner and started questioning her about the conditions she was keeping the puppies in. They apparently asked so many questions that the woman threw them out of the store.
Hopefully some of the other customers heard what was going on.
I was really impressed that a 13 year old would know enough to notice horrible conditions...and be brave enough to question what she knew was wrong!
The store was in Riverhead, by the way. I have a feeling she'll be going back!

Someone complained in a previous post that they (posters) shouldn't have to "suffer" reading about puppy mills anymore and to drop the subject...which is absolutely ridiculous of course.

she should take it a step further and make it a project...have her look up the info concerning health regulations and requirements for up-keep in the pet store, and perhaps even call someone to investigate whether she is providing humane conditions for the animals!

I am not sure I understand..."some people reading the post will suffer". Again, I would like to point out a fact, the only ones "suffering" are the animals that come from the mills and the mothers who are babie machines day in and day out.

Imagine the emotional suffering this child went through witnesssing neglect of an animal. There is no doubt that children can teach adults right from wrong, especially after reading the post about now others will suffer again reading about mills.

Wow..what a great kid! So many people just turn their eyes away from cruelty rather than trying to rectify it. I really give your student A LOT of credit!
