We never used to but now that there's only one left, we leave the TV on when we're out for the day.
Growing up my parents always left a radio on in the kitchen for the cats.

Every single time, no fail. We leave the tv on. Not only does it help the pups and drown out outside noises so they don't bark too much, but we feel if anyone came to our home they may also hear and be deterred. So yes, it has always been left on and we keep on something peaceful, like HGTV or Food Network. Nothing loud or upsetting!

 now that I think about this though, what if animal cops is on or something and all the barking dogs freak my Sandy out? I may need to find a new channel, maybe noggin or discovery

lol we do the same!
when she was a pup we would play music for her at night while she had to be crated but she no longer has to be crated so that has stopped.
my mom has two cats - and before the VCR (at the time) ate the videotape she used to play this videotape of birds for them to watch - they would sit there MESMORIZED by the birds - it was fifteen minutes long and it became a routine - they would come in around noonish everyday and my mom would pop the tape in for them LOL!
unfortunately - the VCR then ate the tape and that was that - but for weeks the cats would go towards the TV, look around and become sad.
