No Analog TV's in '09
Here is a link to the story http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22401907/wid/11915829?gt1=10841
The part that gets me though is
and Congress has set aside $1.5 billion to help subsidize the purchase of converter boxes.
Can't they think of a better way to spend $1.5 BILLION???

The money is to help those who can't afford the $50-$70 for a converter. Those with cable/FiOS/satellite boxes shouldn't need a converter.
We are going to digital to free up some analog bandwidth (most of which will be used for emergency services, like fire and police departments), and to keep up with consumer demand. The only way to make that switch feasible is to do an all-or-nothing approach. It's not fair, however, to tell people who have been getting TV with an antenna that they can't have TV anymore.
There are many more billions of dollars being spent by Congress that are much more questionable than this expense....

It should also be noted that television and now the Internet are seen just as telephones were in the last century. They are communication devices that have become a necessity in our nation.
