Cats & Dogs....

How long does it take for cats and dogs to get along? and should you have them explore together? as much as possible? even if the cats seem to not like the dog? what is the right thing to do???

We got Misty when Espresso was about a year old.
We kept them seperated for about two weeks. We kept Misty in the bedroom and she was in her crate when Espresso came into the room. Then we started letting them sniff one another while Misty was on the leash. After about two weeks we started to let them interact under our supervision. If we weren't home, Misty was in her crate.

It took them a long time to "like" each other, but they were tolerating each other pretty quickly. The hardest part was keeping Misty from chasing Espresso since she is a hunting dog.

Now, Espresso comes up to her and bats her on the nose so she will chase him.
