If you open a package
of cookies, and the first cookie is broken, do you eat it?
do you count it as a whole cookie in your cookie allotment?
I cannot eat a previously broken cookie. I go down the line until I find a whole one and start the gluttony from there.

It goes like this...
if there are 5 cookies on a plate and one of them is broken I can eat all of them and on my planet I will only have eaten 4 cookies. Because the broken one doesn't count.
ETA: so to answer the original question, yes and without guilt.

Oddly enough, in my mind, no, they do not count towards my cookie allotment.
then again, I really don't give myself a limit.

It still tastes good and it's not the cookie's fault that it's broken so I feel bad for it and eat it. Plus it doesn't count.

I'll eat the broken cookie, both halves, and neither counts as a whole cookie.
I could eat 4 halves, and then I might count is as 1 cookie, but certainly not 2.
Disclaimer: I will only eat the broken cookie if I opened the box first and no one else touched the cookies. If there is a box or plate of cookies out, and there is a broken one, I will not touch it. I have no idea if anyone's grubby mitts were on that cookie before I got there. People do that at work with cookies, donuts, bagels, etc. and it  me.

YES!!! I should add this disclaimer to my response as well.
I never go for the broken cookie when they've been sitting out.

Yeah with my luck, Id try to break one with my left hand and a chocolate chip would pop up and lodge itself in my eye. Bastid cookie.
