Job Q

When you are asked to pick up the work load for soemone else (meaning they left the job and you do it until someone else is hired) does your job compensate you in salary?

Or just a BIG THANKS for your help?

Re: Job Q

Usually a thank you and a Amex gift check or Gift Card.

We have a really great recognition program at our company.

Re: Job Q

never get compensated, and rarely get a thank you around here Chat Icon

A short while ago they dumped yet ANOTHER attorney on me to assist, she is beyond a PITA and yet I make the same salary as before, and will continue to make

At my firm, people leave and they are not replaced.. there is a hiring freeze.. so those of us who remain, well we just get stuck with more to do Chat Icon and the same amount of $ and recognition!!

Re: Job Q

No. I am paid to basically do what they tell me to do (within reason). But when review time comes around I would mention how I am a team player, etc.

Re: Job Q

Wow.i guess i assumed jobs would compensate in some way...

DO you think that you would be looked at favorably if you were looking to move up? Would it give you an advantage?

Compensate??!!!?? I don't think my firm knows the meaning of that word.

Big "thank you"???? Seems no one here attended manners classes either!

Re: Job Q

I haven't really heard of comepnsation for that. Maybe a bonus at the end of the year, but definitely no raise.

It SHOULD be recognized to help you get a promotion or to be looked at more favorably. It could also help if you are up for a raise. It really depends on who the management is.

I was promoted for doing my job above and beyond. I picked up the weak and made them strong. The areas where I was weak I made stronger by training with the right people, asking questions and making mistakes which enabled me to learn from them.

As for when we loose an employee it burns me so much to pick up their work because they didnt show me what they were doing, how they did it, where they got their information, or how they processed things. So I am left hanging and investigating their work so I know if I am able to deligate it to others or work on it by myself. Once I figure out what I need to do it is just one more job thrown onto my plate and often times the work I have I can not deligate so I find myself falling behind.

I make sure to always thank my team for doing more then what is expected. It could be going to the fax machine and picking up my faxes or dropping something off. I make sure they know they are appreciated for their hard work. The team had agreed we would all do our own filing. One lady somehow became the official filer. I made her a certificate of appreciation for doing the filing. A corny little thing but it made her feel good and she has it hanging on her desk.

I think a thank you no matter in what format is great encouragement for the person and can help in the groups moral.
